One of these drives showed up in the office with a friend exclaiming "This thing is as fast as your internal SSD!". Upon testing, it is just as fast as my internal SSD, occasionally breaking the 2,300 Mbs range. We work on massive files, creating 3D imagery with laser scans and 1,000+ photos, with projects regularly breaching 250 GB. Working solely on an internal drive is a joke, as I often fill it within a week. With this new external advancement, I can work hassle free on any project, and easily hand it off to the next person for further processing. Buy this drive. It is well worth the money.

Ik gebruik een IMac en het fijne daarvan is dat hij 2 Thunderbolt 3 poorten heeft. Omdat het interne geheugen 'maar' 512 Gb is heb ik deze snelle 500 Gb SSD erbij gekocht. En dat werkt niet alleen fantastisch maar de SSD ziet er ook nog eens geweldig uit!

I use mine with a Microsoft PC and it is nearly flawless both in design and functionality. I am actually getting 3 MBps at times. Normally, however, I run at about 2.7 MBps. Which is just perfect for me and for everyday use. The quality is what I noticed first thing. This is extremely durable and has a nice bit of weight to it. Not heavy enough to be cumbersome or clunky, just enough to tell the craftsmanship is there. Samsung boasts a 6 foot drop range, but it's a bit pricey for me to be able to put that claim to the test! Overall, I am very pleased. If there was a drawback, it would be that my son can't use this with his MacBook. But for me, it is almost perfect. Bravo!

Ja, de prijs is stevig, dat gezegd is de vraag natuurlijk, is hij zijn geld waard? En daar kan ik volmondig JA op zeggen. Een Ferrari kost ook wel een paar euro meer dan een Ford Focus en er is een doelgroep voor beide. Voor deze is het een club mensen waar ik mijzelf onder schaar waarbij snelheid van dit soort drives echt het verschil maakt in workflow. Ik heb hem op een 2016 MBP 15" gelokt op 2GB/s, de folder klopt dus. Hij is stevig genoeg gebouwd dat ik er ook mijn data op durf te zetten. Het is geen wankeling schijfje met plekken waar je beweging in krijgt als je er een beetje op drukt, het is gewoon een degelijke drive. In tegenstelling tot de T5 serie is hij dan wel echt gewoon 2x zo groot. Maar de club die met dit soort drives werkt heeft waarschijnlijk ook een lens van 8,5KG in de tas zitten, dus soit.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The X5 is a great external storage device. It's a nice balance between a zip drive and a external hard drive (which could be heavy). I felt it's weighs optimal. It offered me a speed of 2.7 megs/sec to write which is very good in my mind. It is super easy to carry around and travel with. It's not at all bulky. My slight concern was that it warmed up a tad bit, this may be due to the fact that I have a lot of data. The interface was easy to use. Overall, an excellent SSD.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Samsung SSD X5 1TB drive has plenty of speed to save or retrieve files. The drive is a compact size and be easily carried in a case or pocket . Because it is a solid state drive, it is fast. Files read and write quickly. The only downside to this drive is that your computer has to have a port that is "Thunderbolt " compatible. Not all computers have this compatability. Be sure to check the compatability that Samsung provides. Overall, I feel this is a good ssd drive.

I do a lot of video work so Im always transferring movies back and forth to my PC or phone. I was very impressed by the transfer speeds. The drive itself wasnt too bulky. I liked the astetic of it. But I quickly found out that a regular C port cable will not transfer any files. When I plugged it in, it never showed up in windows. It only showed up when I used a thunderbolt c cable

Cela fait un mois que j'ai acheté un Portable SSD X5 500Go et que je l'utilise comme disque de démarrage principal sous Mojave connecté en T3 sur un iMac 27" 5K FD 2To de 2017. Les vitesses testées sous AJA System et Blackmagic Disk Speed Test sont en lecture de 2500 Mo/s et de 1800 Mo/s en écriture, soit beaucoup plus rapide que le SSD interne Apple de 128Go. Le démarrage sur le SSD samsung X5 externe T3 est quasiment aussi rapide que le démarrage sur le SSD interne. La température de fonctionnement du SSD Samsung X5 est logement supérieur à celui du SSD interne, 40°C contre 30°C en moyenne. C’est bien le contrôleur SSD Apple qui rentre en fonction et pas celui du SSD Samsung externe, et le TRIM est pris en charge par défaut. Soit formatage en tableau de partition GUID avec volume Apple_APFS sous Mojave.

I bought this 2 months ago and I can't use it. First they had an incompatible update for the APP and I have some tough times to make it work then the I upgraded the OS and of course is not working anymore on macOS Catalina. SSD is nor recognised and I receive a message in the APP 1.6.6 that X5 is not working properly. Great!

yesterday, i plugged in my drive, and it appeared on my desktop. i pulled up the samsungportablessd app, and it said, "no samsung portablessd is connected." nothing loads other than the x5_setup read-only partition. it also seems to get very hot. now i'm stuck on hold with tech support.

I decided to give it a try and see if it was really worth the price tag. After receiving and using the Samsung portable SSD X5 1 TB, I can honestly say it does not disappoint. The very first thing I did was transfer 4 HD movies ranging in between 4-6GB each from my desktop over to the X5. 25 seconds later and before I could blink it was finished. Running out of space on my laptop’s SSD made this purchase even more of a no brainer as I was able to transfer a big portion of my PC gaming library to the X5. I am currently playing all my games with no issues at all. It practically feels like the game is running through my normal desktop SSD. The unit does get hot to the touch but the heatsink allows it not to overheat which in my opinion is a clever design on Samsung’s part. Overall, I am very impressed with the X5 and highly recommend it for content creators, video editors, photographers and gamers who want the speed of an SSD on the go.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Samsung is well known for being the best in storage. I've owned several of their SSDs over the years and none have ever let me down! The X5 is no different. This is hands down the fastest portable storage I've even used, probably the fastest on the planet. Faster than any SD card, faster than any flash drive, faster than any portable SSD, faster than most non-portable SSDs too! I have a huge library of movies just sitting on my PC. I've wanted to move them to portable storage so I can take them to my friends' houses or watch on other devices. I've done just that, and they all transferred quite quickly. Watching movies has no loading or buffering of any kind, it's all just instant! Combining NVMe storage with Thunderbolt 3 technology was a stroke of genius by Samsung. For those who don't know; NVMe and Thunderbolt 3 are the fastest storage and interface in existence. Both have recently been gaining a lot of popularity in the tech world, but now with Samsung's X5 you don't need to be tech savvy at all to get the fastest storage available. I highly recommend this product to anyone who needs the fastest possible portable storage.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After testing the drive, I got an average reading speed of 2.8 MB/s and average 2MB/s writing speed. These speeds are so close to the manufacturer's declared speeds. This was surprising as normally it is not the case in my previous experience. In addition to speed, when looking for a portable backup drive I look for the build of the device. I do not want to store it in a device that can get ruined the first time I accidentally drop it or my cats knock it off the table (yes, they actually do that if I leave it on the table). So even though I did not try to test drop the drive for obvious reasons, I'm happy with Samsung's claim that the drive is extremely durable and can be dropped from up to 6 feet without damage. I find the device very durable. While holding the device, you can clearly feel the high build quality and that it's going to be hard to ruin it. Those are the two advantages (speed and durability) that I think put this Samsung portable SSD above competitive products. My one complaint is that the drive does not work with my wife's Apple MacBook and I'm still trying to figure that out. Luckily I'm working on a Microsoft PC and it works flawlessly there. If you are in the market for portable SSD drive I highly recommend the Samsung.

Your computer must support Thunderbolt 3 (not just USB Type-C), otherwise, this SSD will not works. From the outlook, that is only one USB-Type C and one LED light. Hence, the power is supply by Thunderbolt interface. It is made by metal, you will feel warm when you use it. It has AES 256 Bit hardware encryption according its website (but, I never tested it.). I put into my lab PC to replace older HDD portable Hard disk. 1) this portable disk is much faster than my older hard disk. I can around 1xx MB/s to 3xx MB/s (most of tiem, it is around 1xx MB/s. But, it will jump to 2xxMB/s time to time) speed when I copy files between disk. I think, that is some limitation in my PC. I did some research from Internet, some people is able to get almost 2GB/s speed. It is warm when I let it run overnight. It is a little bit heavy compare to USB disk, but, much light and smaller than HDD portable disk. The capacity and data throughput is much better than my USB disk. The only drawback I can say. It is only support Thunderbolt 3, not USB (even it is using USB-Type C connector). I need to find the PC which has "real Thunderbolt 3" interface to use it. (but, this is the reason has such high speed.) and it is expensive. Overall, this is a good product if you are looking for high performance SSD. If you are using MacBook, this SSD can expend your high speed storage space without changing laptop. I will recommend this product.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After spending a few weeks with the Samsung X5, I can wholeheartedly say that this drive is amazing- it is the lamborghini of portable drives. My workflow involves backing up a lot of data at a secondary facility that we do not have network access into. Moving data back and forth (large batches of scans from a micro-CT) was painful, even with a decent usb 3 drive. Being able to utilize PCI speeds you get through thunderbolt saves me a good chunk of time every day. Overall thoughts on the device Form factor: It is about the size of a portable 2.5” hard drive. It’s likely only as big as it is to help with heat dissipation to prevent throttling- this baby gets nice and toasty when it’s been running at full speed for a bit. It has a nice premium look to it, the smooth silver casing offset by the red rubber bottom looks nice. Speed: The one part anyone cares about if you are spending big money on a drive. I can safely say that this drive is worth the price of admission. Granted, it doesn’t hit the theoretical speeds it is labeled with hitting (honestly, nothing ever hits the advertised speeds in my experience) but it comes a lot closer than I would have expected. In my day to day usage, I’ve found it to consistently perform close to the speeds achieved through benchmarking (photo attached). Negatives: Biggest negative here is that it is only compatible with thunderbolt 3 ports. That means either a relatively new laptop or a desktop with a PCI thunderbolt card added on. Not being backwards compatible with USB really pushes this drive into a niche market, given its price point. Overall- I really enjoy this drive, and it has had a measurable impact on my day to day. If you need to move a lot of data back and forth on the regular using hardware, or expandable storage for your laptop that functions as fast as your NVME, this is the drive for you.

Had been using the SSD for about 3 weeks, and experience was superb. To start of with, the design, the hard disk looks really sleek (sleekness achieved due to SSD type being NVMe which is much smaller than regular 2.5MM disk, attached an image of NVMe SSD on top of iPhone X for size) which is good as it can easily fit in pocket if needed. The color with the Black and Red looks really nice and well designed and found few F1 cars that partly resemble the X5 model(minus all the branding) Now getting back to usage, on the first run, the Speedtest shows write Speeds of 1891Mbps and Read Speeds of 2243Mbps, which is amazing but guess if the processor is newer, higher speeds can possibly be achieved as well. When the SSD was connected to Mac, there was an option to install Software which in turn can be used to set Password Protection with AES 256bit encryption, but even after multiple tries, application doesnt detect the hard disk as connected even when connected, which is disappointing, but it may depend on the older Mac I use, so others may be able to install it, and it should possibly install on Windows(but sadly dont have Win PC with TBT3) Getting to the actual usage, copied files totaling 24gb, and copy took less than 2 minutes(1:47 precise), which is over 8 times faster compared to other HDs that I had used previously. Also had few video clips added to the X5 and then used iMovie to join all clips and export back to X5 which took about 5 minutes and 32 seconds to complete. When I ran the same clips from internal SSD and export back to Mac, it took over 15 minutes to finish the export. So for any photographers, this is going to be great addition, as long as the processor can handle the work. Also, even at such high read/write speeds during the export, the SSD stayed cool, never heated up. Tested copying of a file that is about 10GB and it took under a minute to copy, which is amazing. Also tested copying songs about 11GB size, and it was done under a minute, and when the same files were copied to a Type C USB, it took about 5 minutes, and copying the same to a regular USB 3 took over 15 minutes. So its easy to understand that nothing can beat the speed. Also, didn't realize that the Surface Book 2 only has Type C port, not TBT3. But most new Windows laptops now include TBT3 port so may have to upgrade laptop soon. Pros: 1. Great transfer speeds 2. Sturdy 3. Doesnt heat up 4. Great design/look Cons: 1. Limited PCs with TBT3 port 2. Short cable
