Samsung washing machine information and error codes
What is displayed on your washer?
1E, LE, 1C, LC, LC1, 1 1C, 1 LC: Water level or leakage error
Moisture is detected somewhere it doesn't belong, or there is an issue with the sensor itself.
- First, look for evidence of a leak. Sometimes, leaks are so small they go unnoticed. If you find a leak, fixing the leak will fix the error.
- Check that the hoses behind the washer (supply hoses and drain hose) are not kinked.
Note: Do not remove the screw on the back of the washer that holds the drain hose against the washer. If the screw has been removed, screw it and the holder back in with any screw that fits. If the holder is missing, service is required. - Run an empty cycle with no additives (detergent, fabric softener, etc.) and see if suds appear during the cycle. If they do, it means too much detergent or a non-HE detergent has been used. Continue to run empty cycles until there are no more suds, and then check if the code appears again.
If suds do not appear, but the code continues, visit our Support Center to request service.
4C, 1 4C, nF, 4E: Not filling error
Water is not entering the washer correctly.
- Make sure both the hot and cold water supply hoses are connected to the correct inlets (hot to hot and cold to cold) on the washer, and that the hoses are not bent or kinked. If you do not connect the hot water line, you will get an error when the washer attempts to use hot water, which may happen even on cycles labeled Cold.
Note: Do not use Flood Safe hoses.
- Open the water valves completely and leave them open as the washer is running.
- Make sure the drain hose is inserted properly and is not kinked. It should not be inserted more than 6 inches into the drain pipe.
Note: Do not remove the screw on the back of the washer that holds the drain hose against the washer. If the screw has been removed, screw it and the holder back in with any screw that fits. If the holder is missing, service is required.
- Unplug the washer or flip the circuit breaker for the washer for 1 minute. Then, restore power and try to run a cycle.
- If there is dirt or debris in the water supply, it will get filtered before entering the washer, and if enough debris builds up, it will block water from entering the washer. If you want to check for debris, you'll need to turn your water supply valves back off, and disconnect the hoses from the back of the washer and look inside the washer's connections. If there is debris, carefully remove the filters and clean them. Make sure the water supply valves are fully open again after reconnecting.
If the code continues, visit our Support Center to request service.
4C2, 4E2, CE, 14C2, nF1: Hot/cold error
The water from the cold water supply is extremely hot.
This happens when the supply hoses are swapped and cold is connected to hot while hot is connected to cold.
To fix this, connect the cold supply to the cold inlet and the hot supply to the hot inlet. Typically, this will require matching blue to blue and red to red.
This code does not indicate that service is needed.
nd, 5E, SE, 5C, SC, 1 5C: No drain error
Water is not draining from the washer at the correct speed (or at all). See our guide for more information.
OE, 0E, OC, 0C, 1 OC, 1 0C: Overflow error
There is too much water in the washer. See our guide for more information.
E2, bE2, 6E2, BE2*, 8E2*: Jammed button error
A button on the panel is detected as stuck or continuously pressed.
To fix this, power off the washer, and then individually touch every button on the panel. While touching each button, work it back and forth to reach all edges before releasing.
If any of the buttons are damaged, or the code returns after powering on the washer, visit our Support Center to request service.
*On some models, BE2 (8E2) is a Jammed Button Error. On some models it is a Mems Sensor Error (located in the All Other Errors section). See your user manual to determine which it is for your model.
9C1, 9C2, PF, 3E*, 2E, 9E1, 9E2, UC, 19C1, 19C2: Voltage error
There is an irregularity in the electrical current being supplied to the washer. A PF (Power Failure) Error will also occur if the power went out before the washer powered itself off (such as an outage), the washer getting unplugged, or if the circuit breaker trips. Models that are not in their country of origin may display this error code because power grids and their regulations vary between countries.
To fix this, confirm the washer is on its own circuit and is not using an extension cord.
If the code continues, visit our Support Center to request service.
*On some models, 3E is a Voltage Error. On other models it is a Motor Error (located in the All Other Errors section). See your user manual to determine which it is for your model.
dS, d5, FL, LO, L0, dE, dE1, dE2, dC*, dC1, dL, 1 dC, 1dC4, 1dC1: Door error
The door is not detected as closed and locked.
Check that the latch is securely fixed, laundry or other items are not caught in the door, and the door is closed and secured correctly.
If the code cannot be corrected or if there is damage to the door or latch, visit our Support Center to request service.
Notes:
- This code may appear even if you are not running a cycle, if Child Lock is enabled and water is in the tub. If the door is not closed or Child Lock turned off within 30 seconds, the washing machine will drain the water from the tub.
- FlexWash washers will display a 1dC4 error if the rubber button next to the upper washer's latch is missing. In this case, service is not required, and replacing the button will fix the error.
*On some models, dC is a Door Error. On some models it is an Unbalanced Load Error. See your user manual to determine which it is for your model.
SDC, 5DC: Detergent drawer error
The detergent drawer is not completely closed. The detergent drawer will click when it is completely closed.
SUd, 5UD, Sd, 5d, SUdS, 5Ud5: Excessive suds error
The washer has detected an over-sudsing condition and will stop for a short period to allow the suds to dissipate. The cycle will automatically continue afterwards, although the code may flash again at the end of the cycle as a reminder.
This code does not indicate that service is needed. It is caused by an incorrect use of detergent. See our guide on detergent usage.
ddC, dC3: Add Door error
The Add Door is not detected as closed and locked.
Check that the latch is securely fixed, laundry or other items are not caught in the Add Door, and the Add Door is closed and secured correctly.
If the code cannot be corrected or there is damage to the Add Door or latch, visit our Support Center to request service.
dc*, Ub, U6, Ur, UE, 1 Ub, 1U6: Unbalanced Load Error
The current load in the washer is unbalanced inside the tub. A Ur code (Unbalanced Load Retry) means the washer is going to try to add more water, try to balance the load, and then try the spin cycle again. This will extend the length of the cycle. A Ur code does not mean that there is an issue with your washer, it's just there to tell you what's happening.
All the other codes in this section indicate the washer will fail to complete the cycle because the load is unbalanced.
- Untangle and rearrange the laundry to be more balanced within the tub.
- Close the door and restart the cycle (push the Start button).
If you continuously get this error, see our guide for Washer won't spin.
*On some models, dc is an Unbalanced Load Error. On other models it is a Door Error. See your user manual to determine which it is for your model.
Cb, C6: Calibration mode
Calibration mode is used to recalibrate the weight detection of the washer. Weight detection is used to adjust the water amount used per cycle. It's a step typically performed at the very end of installation.
Calibration mode will rotate the tub or drum back and forth for 1-3 minutes and then end by itself. However, Calibration mode will not calibrate correctly unless the washing machine is empty. If there is something in the washing machine, remove it and then run Calibration mode again with the washer empty, so your washer is properly calibrated. See our article on washer installation or your user manual for instructions on Calibration mode.
CL: Child Lock
On newer models of washers, this code will display when Child Lock mode has drained water from the tub. It does this whenever Child Lock mode is turned on, the level of water in the tub is unsafe, and the door has been opened. To clear the code, turn the washer off and back on, or turn off Child Lock.
dn: Downloading
The washer is downloading an update. During the update, the controls will not respond, including the dial. Updates take about 15 minutes and the message will disappear when the update is complete. Keep the washer powered on while the download completes.
If the washer has displayed this code for more than 30 minutes, while continuously powered on and with no Wi-Fi connection issues, then visit our Support Center to request service.
Refill detergent or softener: Your auto dispenser is empty and needs refilling. The message will clear during the next cycle you run after filling the compartment(s). The detergent message will clear during the wash cycle, and the softener message will clear during the rinse cycle. See our guide for more information.
All other errors: These errors typically relate to sensors or the electronic components in the washer reporting that they are not working correctly.

Hot & Small, or Hot & Low: Hot/cold error
The water from the cold water supply is extremely hot.
This happens when the supply hoses are swapped and cold is connected to hot while hot is connected to cold.
To fix this, connect the cold supply to the cold inlet and the hot supply to the hot inlet. Typically, this will require matching blue to blue and red to red.
This code does not indicate that service is needed.
Small, or Low: No drain error
Water is not draining from the washer at the correct speed (or at all).
To fix this, see our guide for water not draining from the washer.
Tap Cold, Cool, Medium, or Mid: Overflow error
There is too much water in the washer.
To fix this, see our guide for water not draining from the washer.
Cold, or Eco Warm: Jammed button error
A button on the panel is detected as stuck or continuously pressed.
To fix this, power off the washer, and then individually touch every button on the panel. While touching each button, work it back and forth to reach all edges before releasing.
If any of the buttons are damaged, or the code returns after powering on the washer, visit our Support Center to request service.
Hot, Hot & Extra Large, Hot & Extra High, Hot & Large, or Hot & High: Door error
The door is not detected as closed and locked.
Check that the latch is securely fixed, laundry or other items are not caught in the door, and the door is closed and secured correctly.
If the code cannot be corrected or there is damage to the door or latch, visit our Support Center to request service.
Hot & Warm: Unbalanced Load Error
The current load in the washer is unbalanced inside the tub.
To fix this:
- Pause the cycle if needed.
- Verify the washer is not overloaded (more than 3/4 full), or under loaded (less than 1/3 full).
- Redistribute the load to balance weight evenly around the tub.
- Different fabrics will absorb different amounts of water, so evenly distribute similar fabrics to better balance the weight. For instance, towels in particular absorb a lot of water.
- Heavy or single items may not spin well on their own, so additional items may be needed to balance the load.
- Long and thin laundry items have a tendency to get tangled; if this occurs, untangle them and redistribute them evenly.
- And if you're washing pillowcases, take the pillows out of them first.
- Make sure the selected cycle matches what is being washed, and then resume or restart the cycle.
If this error message is a common occurrence, see our guide for Washer won't spin.
Self Clean: Self Clean Reminder
This is not an error. The Self Clean LED will blink after a certain number of washes. This may vary slightly between models based on the size of your washer. Although you do not need to run a Self Clean cycle immediately, we recommend that you run one at your earliest opportunity.
All other errors: These errors typically relate to sensors or the electronic components in the washer reporting that they are not working correctly.
Samsung has many different makes and models of washers. If you do not see an error you have received, or if any of the errors below occur, power off the washer for 2-3 minutes, power it back on, and restart the cycle. If the error continues, visit our Support Center to request service.
