On-screen keyboard keeps appearing in DeX mode

If the virtual keyboard is causing issues or appearing unexpectedly in Samsung DeX mode, follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

On-screen keyboard keeps appearing in DeX mode

The virtual keyboard feature can be enabled even when a physical keyboard is connected. The virtual keyboard may disappear if an app is selected from the desktop or Taskbar. Select the virtual keyboard or a text field for it to reappear.

Make sure the virtual keyboard is turned off.

In DeX mode, navigate to and open Settings, and then select Connected devices. Select Samsung DeX, then select Keyboard, and then select the switch next to Show on-screen keyboard in Samsung DeX to turn the virtual keyboard off.

Check the physical keyboard's settings.

You will need to check your physical keyboard's settings and ensure it's properly connected. Steps vary depending on whether you have a wired USB keyboard, a wireless USB keyboard, or a Bluetooth keyboard:

Perform additional troubleshooting steps.

  • Restart your phone or tablet: Press and hold the Power button and Volume down button until the Power menu appears, and then tap Restart twice.
  • Check for updates: Navigate to and open Settings, swipe to and tap Software update, and then tap Download and install. If no update appears, manually check by selecting Check for updates. Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install any available updates.
