Keyboard not appearing on Galaxy phone lock screen

If a third-party keyboard is set as the default input method, the keyboard may not appear on the lock screen, making it impossible to unlock your device. This guide provides solutions to resolve the issue by switching to the default Samsung keyboard, including methods to boot into Safe Mode.

Restart your device in Safe mode.

Method 1:

  1. Press and hold the volume down and power buttons together for 7 seconds to restart your phone.
  2. While the device is restarting, press and hold the volume down button to enter Safe Mode (a "Safe Mode" label will appear in the lower-left corner of the screen).
     

Method 2:

  1. Open the Power menu:
    • Press and hold the Power button and Volume down button until the Power menu is displayed.
    • Swipe down from the top right of the screen to open the Quick settings panel, and then tap the Power icon at the top of the screen.
  2. Next, touch and hold Power off until the Safe mode icon is displayed, then tap Safe mode to start your device in Safe Mode.
     

If you've entered Safe Mode successfully, you'll see "Safe mode" displayed at the bottom of the screen.

Exit Safe mode.

Method 1:

  1. Swipe down from the top left corner of the screen to open the Notification panel.
  2. Tap the Safe mode is on notification, and then tap Turn off to exit Safe mode.
     

Method 2:

  1. Open the Power menu:
    • Press and hold the Power button and Volume down button until the Power menu is displayed.
    • Swipe down from the top right of the screen to open the Quick settings panel, and then tap the Power icon at the top of the screen.
  2. Next, tap Restart, and then tap Restart again to exit Safe Mode.


The default keyboard will remain set to the Samsung keyboard.
