Virtual reality is the new thing to try, and with the Samsung Gear VR, it has become easier than ever.
The Samsung Gear VR works with the Galaxy S7 edge or S7, S6 or Note 5, even though there is limited support for the Note 4 as well. As developers might decide to stop supporting older phones as the updates roll in, your best bet is the Samsung Galaxy S7 to be able to use the Gear VR for the longest possible.
Here are our 6 tips to make the most of your Samsung Gear VR.
Get the best sound
If you are not satisfied by the sound coming from your smartphone external speaker, and want to immerse yourself fully in the virtual reality experience, you might want to opt for headphones instead. We strongly suggest wired headphones as Bluetooth headsets are not recommended by Oculus. Make sure you get noise cancelling headphones for an ultimate VR experience.
Know your maximum tolerance
If you tend to be sensitive to motion sickness, you might want to choose your games carefully. Oculus includes ratings related to this in the games and content ratings. Make sure you pick content that is “comfortable for most” if you feel queasy easily.
Make sure the Gear VR is clean
How annoying would it be to get ready for your virtual reality experience, get started and realizing your field of view is obstructed by a layer of dust? Make sure to clean thoroughly the device after each use with an air canister to avoid this situation.
Don’t sit still
As the Samsung Gear VR is a wireless device, take advantage of it and use it in a spinning chair, such as an office chair or a stool. Playing stood up is also an option, but be careful to what’s around you!
Improve your smartphone’s battery life
Avoid having your smartphone’s battery completely drained at the end of your virtual reality session by using an USB cable plugged into your phone from the Samsung Gear VR micro USB connector at the bottom of the device. Make sure you have enough space for movements without unplugging the cable!
Don’t be disturbed during the VR experience
Receiving phone calls, messages or notifications will prevent you from fully immersing into the virtual reality world, so make sure your phone is on “Do Not Disturb” mode. When playing, putting your smartphone in Plane Mode is a good idea to avoid it overheating and using too much battery as well.
