How to transfer data from an iOS device to a new Galaxy device with the updated Smart Switch
The latest Smart Switch update makes transitioning your data from an iOS device to a new Galaxy device faster and simpler than ever. By simply scanning a QR code from the Galaxy device, the iOS user can immediately and wirelessly begin receiving data without having to install the Smart Switch app.
Note:
- This feature is only supported in iOS 26.6, Android 17, One UI 9.0 and later.
- The same steps can be applied when transferring data from other Android devices to your Galaxy.
Step 1. Initiate setup and pair your devices
Begin the initial setup on your new Galaxy device to establish a secure connection with your iOS device.
Step 2. Select and transfer your iOS data
Choose the specific content you want to migrate and begin the wireless transfer process.
Step 3. Complete the Galaxy device configuration
Finalise your security preferences and user interface setting while the transfer wraps up.
Step 4. Finalise data migration and cloud sync
Ensure all your accounts, messaging services, and media files are properly transitioned.
Note: Additional data, such as WhatsApp chat history, can be backed up and restored immediately after this transfer phase is complete. Follow the on-screen verification prompts to migrate your chat history.
Frequently asked questions
How does this differ from the existing Smart Switch data transfer?
In the past, starting a transfer required installing the Smart Switch app on the iPhone. However, with Galaxy devices on Android 17+ (One UI 9.0 or later) and iPhones on iOS 26.6+, you can initiate the wireless transfer instantly by scanning the QR code on the Galaxy screen with your camera. This method also supports a broader range of data types.
Can I restore WhatsApp Data?
Yes, you can. After the wireless Smart Switch transfer is complete, you can restore WhatsApp data separately via a wired connection. It is also possible to use the backup and restore feature built directly into the WhatsApp app.
* LINE app data transfer is only supported on Galaxy devices released in Japan with a local carrier SIM card.
What happens if the wireless transfer fails midway?
If the wireless transfer fails, the process will stop. When you restart Smart Switch, you will be guided back to the wireless connection screen. Please try again from the beginning.
Can I transfer large amounts of data stored in iCloud using Smart Switch?
Yes, iCloud data can also be transferred through Smart Switch.
* Transferable iCloud data: Contacts, Calendar (+Reminders), Notes, Images, Videos, Documents.
Is there any data that cannot be transferred from an iPhone to a Galaxy?
For certain data (WhatsApp data, Reminders, registered Bluetooth devices, blocked contacts, and browser bookmarks), you can proceed with the data transfer by selecting the transfer option on the ‘conversation and settings’ tip card that appears after completing the wireless transfer. This can be done by connecting via wired (cable) connection.
* The functions, menu names, and screen layouts described above may vary depending on the device model and software version.
