I have used other NVMe SSDs and did not have a good experience with their speed benefits until I came across this one. I thought I would give a Samsung M.2 NVMe SSD a shot and I am very glad I went with this 1TB model. It is able to quickly boot my computer, transfer large video and photo files from my scuba diving trip to Cozumel (GoPro), and works perfectly for my video games. All in all, if you are looking for an all-in-one solution, I recommend this NVMe drive. Don't make the mistake of going with a slightly cheaper model - the logic controller on this drive is worth the money.

I've added this to an Nvidia Shield as an external network storage. Compared to an SD that I had with a USB adapter it's a game changer! I can't ever see myself going back to HDD or SD cards. Everything loads faster! This is the way to do storage now. Even if you don't have a device that can support it you can always buy an external adapter and use it tgat way. I love it!

I have the 250 GB 870 Evo. I love it to the point that I'll never run a laptop or PC without a portable SSD. It's memory capacity is more than I need. I can edit videos and save them to this drive without effecting my laptops memory or speed. This is the most reliable drive I've gotten. I went through a few other brands like an idiot before discovering this Samsung drive. Which is odd, because my laptop is the Samsung Book 5 Pro. Do the ecosystem is very reliable and they talk to eachother really well. It's trustworthy and easy. Its also thin, mobile, and durable. I can take it everywhere with me, and it takes a beating. But it never fails or let's me down. You Can't go wrong with Samsung ever!!

I formatted the drive to my liking and edited some videos to test out the speed. This drive was blazing fast. It also allowed me to export faster because the encoder wasn't being bogged down by the drive speed. As for reliability, I transferred files to and from this drive and it never lost performance in the time I have had it. I've used many other SSD's but Samsung always stands out. I have the 980 and 980 pro. Super faster and I never questioned how fast they go. I currently use a 2.5 inch wide Samsung SSD from a few years ago and the difference in speed and responsiveness is absolutely noticed. I cloned over my main OS and have it running on this drive and opening programs is as fast as a blink of an eye. Windows loads in 13 seconds on cold boot up which is amazing considering my old SSD was around 40 seconds. Loading Photoshop is about 2 seconds. As I work with large photos of videos, I no longer have lag scrubbing though the files. What I really like about Samsung is that they control the entire supply chain when building their SSD drives including their controllers which I feel helps optimize the entire SSD and also aids in Samsung's great reliability record. 3500mb/s are speeds that only a few years ago where not mass market. The Samsung SSD is air cooled and has a special nickel coating to help keep things cool as the shear speed of drive is keeping performance at top priority without worry of overheating. I feel absolutely amazed at all the time in engineering Samsung has put into making this drive perform the way is does. This kind of performance really helps especially in video editing and opening large file sizes with ease. I can finally scrub through 4k video on my computer smoothly. Great job Samsung.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Tested this baby against 2 other different leading competitors NVMe SSD drives as a secondary multimedia drive(standard formatting options, Default allocation size). Ran three real world tests on all three drives. I have decided to snatch these up to replace all three of my M.2 drives with these. My decision comes from editing video and building PC's for Multimedia professionals(graphics, video, webmasters, coders) for the past 15 years or so. Installation Easy, breezy. I have a huge top end laptop meant for video editing on the go. If any hardware has extra heatsinks, thicker chips, etc, it will not fit. 980 PRO slipped in without issue or modification to the housing of the drives. Initialized the drive, downloaded the software, updated firmware in under two minutes. This product is good for your little to big workstation setups and is not a IT nightmare. I would note that for bigger workstations, you will probably need more storage than 500GB since typical high-end motherboards support 3 M.2 drives with 2 lanes of bandwidth. 4K video export In older HDD's and SSD's(non M.2), I found the temperature to rise quite a bit when using either to export from or to. With M.2 drives It got even less. The 980 PRO never broke a sweat. Granted, I am pumping out master files at an average speed of 56mbps which is a low level hum in the performance aspect of the drive, but it stayed the same temp. This should mean a longer lasting drive with less dead spots over time. File Transfer I just threw a mix of files together(100GB total, all different sizes) and transferred to see. Topped out at 1.8GBps with no dips. Other drives topped out at 1.6 and wavered between 1.2 to 1.6GBps. The heat rose less with the 980 PRO and plateaued at a lower temp than the others. Read write functions to itself(duplicated the files on the 980 PRO) resulted in a dip to 1.6GBps and still outperformed it's peers. Final Opinion Only having a 500GB storage meant I could not test this drive as an OS drive. I do surmise that for a graphic design professional or a gamer, this would be the perfect OS drive as its read write capability is higher and runs at a lower temp. Even transferring files felt snappier(request to response time). Like I already stated, this drive is going to replace my others.

Only issue is when I view it on my AV health screen it will show at 90% health while all other drives will show. 99 or 100. And it's newer than all other drives. I have an external drive that is probably 10 years old. It's been dropped. Kicked. And yelled at. When I plug it in. It shows 80%. This concerns me. Hopefully it's just because of it housing the os it works harder. My hope is it stays at 90 for quote sometime. Oh. Lighting fast boot. I'm not even in my chair by the time it's at the password screen.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been looking to upgrade my current gaming PC and was very pleased to find out that it had a second available slot for this 500Gb SSD. I figured it will be perfect way to a boost for gaming or a seamless workflow for heavy graphics, the 980 is a smart choice for outstanding SSD performance - and it's all backed by an NVMe interface and PCIe 3.0 technology. The install was very easy, as they say "plug and play". You can use the optional Samsung Magician software with it which is pretty neat and useful as well. The drive itself states read speeds up to 3500Mb/s however after doing some testing I was not able to replicate that kind of speed, however all the applications loaded up quickly and after doing some transfers back and forth, it worked amazingly fast. If you still use a spinning drive I would absolutely recommend replacing it with this SSD drive (or even better with a Pro version of it), you will see your OS boot up in seconds, read and write speeds will be quick which will improve your work flow. Samsung is a reliable brand for SSD media and this NVMe M2 is an awesome alternative to any other competition in this area. I received this product at a discounted price for my honest opinion.

The jump in read/write speeds over standard HDDs was massive. Samsung Magician was actually a solid piece of software, handling firmware updates and SMART monitoring to keep the drive healthy. Since they ditch the moving parts, their physical lifespan often outlasts traditional hard drives, provided you don't burn through the NAND flash's write cycles (TBW). Fast forward to today, and high-density storage means you can fit massive amounts of data on a single SSD. They even make rugged, portable versions now if you need to take your storage on the go.

I have heatsinks on both, because my intel 9900KS cpu runs pretty hot and I didn't use liquid cooling. Both drives are spot on for read and write speeds as advertised and are way faster than the average user could ever need. i've had both for years. Obviously the 970 longer and have abuse them thoroughly, and they are both are running like the day I got them. Samsung makes great drives, great memory, and well worth every penny.

It's rough having to delete and re-download games. Also bogs down when multiple games are installed and memory has less then 1gb left. Severely slows down and no 32gb of ram didn't help I ended up getting an external that worked good as my mule storage until my pc blue screened and ssd was fried from working too hard dont get this small one get bigger you'll thank me later

Its unnoticeable during normal use and that's what most people do anyways. Sometimes it feels like storage is limited on the device but it's not unless if you decide it's a good idea to download way too many things on it and possibly even download malware from too many minecraft mods! All in all it's a great start to whatever computer you want to go with it.

It holds all of my pictures, videos, documents, literally everything. You name it. It is conveniently sized so I can easily throw it in my purse or backpack and take it with me wherever I go. It's great for road trips and vacations because I can stop at the nearest coffee shop and access all my important files and data whenever I need. I have never had any problems with it and I would definitely refer it to my friends and family and even a stranger on the street. This drive specifically was perfect for a dedicated Windows OS install; 250gb SSD will provide such a speed boost over an HDD that it’s silly to NOT buy one if you have an older PC and are looking for a cheap upgrade-simply replace your OS install or migrate it to this new drive, reformat your current or use OS management tools to move/remove the older OS partitions from the disc, and you are smooth sailing! FYI I would allow 1-2 days if you need a good working PC, this should allot enough time for this upgrade

It is one of the fastest ssds I've ever used that has a SATA interface. It is super reliable and it's never failed on me. I've never had any problems with it and it is very consistent in gaming heavy workloads. The SSD is super responsive and when you open an app it's instant loading. This SSD has incredible endurance for the price and I also love the outer protection because it is super tough and it will withstand anything you put it through. It doesnt matter if its scratch marks or dents, it will just power through. That is why I absolutely love my Samsung 870 Evo SATA SSD.

It has absolutely SPEED and quality that one comes to expect from Samsung. I watch my spouse spend most of my day in Adobe Programs such as Photoshop and Illustrator. She used to get frustrated at how slow the programs were, but with this all I hear is her raving about how fast everything is! I do think this gets hotter than I'd like - even with the heat spreader label to deliver effective thermal control. I feel better that they are looking at addressing that, but it misses the mark. Otherwise don't look at anything else - just trust this product to greatly increase your expectations.

There may be a little bit of wear as seen using crystal disk, but no bad sectors or anything major (it's still has 93% health after 4 years of use). I did slap on an aftermarket m.2 drive cooler which does mitigate the temps a lot, otherwise it's Samsung and it's quality.

I don't usually buy anything to boost the storage space for any of my devices but I'm really glad I decided to. I have so much room now I don't even know what to do with it all! Now I have PLENTY for all my pictures of my 5 year old as she grows and I know that unless I completely lose the device it's in at the time, I'll have access to them forever and can keep adding more. I always hated when I'd get to that point where I got a message saying my device's memory was full and I had to go through and delete things that I really would rather not have. Now that's no longer an issue.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchase two of the 980 PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD 1TB about a year ago, one to upgrade my new HP Probook and used the second SSD in a StarTech Enclosure for an external back-up drive. I used the Samsung Software to clone the drive and as usual the software from Samsug worked flawlessly. Both drives are super super fast and are working perfectly and I have not had one issue with either drive. For the past 6 or 7 years I have upgraded several of my laptops and desktops going back and starting with 840, 850 and 860 Series, everyone one is still working and going strong. Even the older ones are still fast and working as good as the first day I installed them. SAMSUNG SSDs are the best!!! I would not use any other brand.
