Hong Kong – April 29, 2021 - Samsung Electronics H.K. Company, Limited today announced the official launch of Galaxy SmartTag+, available starting from May 14. Galaxy SmartTag+ is equipped with both Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology so that it can pinpoint the location with greater accuracy. It also adds augmented reality (AR) technology to visually guide users towards where the missing item is located using smartphones’ camera. According to a study on memory and retention, human’s memory will decrease by 42% after 20 minutes, and this further decreases over time. That means that most people are likely to forget where they placed an item, even if it was placed just a few minutes earlier. It was this revelation that inspired Samsung to launch Galaxy SmartTag+ to help users track every important item more accurately.
Easily find your misplaced items
Galaxy SmartTag+, the newest iteration of Samsung’s Galaxy SmartTag, can be attached to everyday items, like a backpack or keychain, so they can be precisely and easily located through the SmartThings Find service on users’ Galaxy device. When the lost item is nearby, just tap the ring button on the phone and follow the ringtone to find out the lost item easily. Vice versa, press the SmartTag+ twice to play the ringtone and find the phone. The SmartTag can be set up with an intelligent reminder. When turned on, users will receive the notification once a tagged SmartTag is reconnected.
Locate your belongings visually with new AR Finder technology
Because Galaxy SmartTag+ is both BLE- and UWB-enabled, users can now use AR technology to find their missing item. The AR Finder guides people with an easy-to-follow interface on a UWB-equipped smartphone, such as Galaxy S21+ or S21 Ultra, which shows how far away users are from their Galaxy SmartTag+ and points in its direction. And once being closer to the tag’s location, users can choose to have it produce a loud ring so that even if it’s slipped under the sofa, there is no trouble finding it.
Pinpoint your tag’s location, even when it’s far away
The Galaxy SmartTag+ can also leverage SmartThings Find’s powerful detection capabilities, allowing users to locate tagged items on a map, even if it’s misplaced somewhere very far from users’ location. That’s because the tags use BLE connectivity and the power of the Galaxy device network. SmartThings Find users can choose to opt in via the SmartThings app and enable their Galaxy smartphone or tablet to help others find their own lost tags or devices. Once a user report the tag as missing in SmartThings Find, any nearby Galaxy device that has opted in will alert the SmartThings server about its location and the user will receive a notification. All data in SmartThings Find is encrypted and protected, so the tag’s location isn’t revealed to anyone but the owner.
Remotely control IoT smart devices with the click of a button
On top of that, Galaxy SmartTag+ and SmartTag are helpful for more than just locating lost possessions. Forgot to turn off the bedside lamp but you’ve already left the house? Rather than running back home, users can use the SmartTag+ or SmartTag to turn off the light remotely. Through the SmartThings app, people can choose different functions they would like the tag to complete when they press or hold down the tag button.
