How to Measure Blood Pressure with Galaxy Watch Active2 and Watch3

The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active2/Galaxy Watch3 can be used to measure your blood pressure when coupled with your Galaxy smartphone and a cuff-based blood pressure monitor. Find out how you can measure your blood pressure with these devices.

Before you try out the recommendations below, be sure to check that your watch and phone's software and related apps are updated to the latest versions. 

What is the Blood Pressure app for?

The blood pressure app determines the systolic and diastolic blood pressure and pulse rate. It provides values and history charts following calibration with a blood pressure cuff.

Note: 
Before measuring your blood pressure, take note of the following:

1. Do not change your medications or dosage based on watch readings. Always speak with your doctor first.

2. 30 minutes before measuring, avoid exercising as well as caffeine, alcohol and nicotine.

3. Do not use if you are pregnant.

4. Do not use if you have specific medical conditions. 

Required devices

In order to measure your blood pressure. You will require all of the following devices:

1. Either a Samsung Galaxy Watch Active2 or Galaxy Watch3.

2. A Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

3. A cuff-type blood pressure monitor approved by the regulatory agency such as FDA and MFDS.

Recalibrating every 28 days

You are required to recalibrate your watch every 28 days to ensure watch measurement accuracy. If you do not recalibrate, you will be unable to continue measuring your blood pressure.

A reminder will be sent to both your phone app and watch 3 days and 1 day before you need to recalibrate. You can also recalibrate your watch anytime before this period.

Getting more accurate BP measurements

Take note of these pointers for the the most accurate measurement:

  • For at least 5 minutes before measurement, try to stay still and not move around or talk while sitting at a waist-backed chair. 
  • Keep your legs flat on the floor without crossing them while taking measurements. 
  • While measuring, keep your wrist position with the watch constant. 
  • Your wrist and watch should not be positioned above your heart while measuring.
  • Do not move or speak during the measurement 
  • Make sure sensor is clean and the watch is snug on your wrist.
  • If the watch's strap is not tight enough to fit the wrist, it may not be measured.

The above-mentioned Galaxy Watches are certified for Blood pressure (BP) and Electrocardiography (ECG) under HSA (Health Science Authority) in Singapore as a medical application.
