Use Smart Switch to Transfer Content with Your PC or Mac
Samsung Smart Switch makes it easy to transfer contacts, photos, messages, and more from your old phone to your new Galaxy phone with your PC or Mac. But first, you'll need to download Samsung Smart Switch. Learn to transfer all your data below.
Requirements for PC and Mac
Before you get started, make sure your PC or Mac meets these system requirements:
Create a Backup
Back it up so you don't lose it! After installing Smart Switch, back up content from your phone to your PC or Mac. Here's how:
Connect your phone to your computer using a USB cable. On your phone, navigate to and open Smart Switch, and then select the Backup items tab. Select the content types you would like to back up, and then select OK. Select Backup on the main Smart Switch screen.
The backup may take several minutes to complete.
You will need to allow permissions on your phone to complete the backup. A screen will appear, informing you that the backup is complete. Select OK.
Note: You may need to unlock the connected phone, and then select USB file transfer to transfer files via USB.
Default Save Location
When you back up your content from your phone to a PC or Mac, the files are automatically stored in a default location, unless you've selected to store them elsewhere. Here are the default locations below, in case you forget where you put them.
Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Samsung\Smart Switch PC
Mac OS X
Note: To quickly access the AppData folder, select Start. In the search bar, type appdata and press the Enter key.

Open Smart Switch on the PC. When prompted, connect your new phone to the PC using the USB cable. After the new phone is connected, the Smart Switch screen will appear. Select Restore. Smart Switch will automatically restore the most recent backup file you created. To restore the content, select Restore now on your PC.
If you would like to restore a different backup, select Change data to restore and then select the backup file.
You will need to allow permissions on your phone to complete the backup.
A screen will appear informing you that the restoration is complete. Select OK.
Sync Microsoft Outlook
Here's another handy way to get your content on a new phone. You can synchronize data on your phone with your Outlook account. Learn how to use the Outlook Sync feature:
Select Outlook Sync on the Smart Switch screen. Select Sync Preferences for Outlook to select which information you would like Smart Switch to sync, select the content you would like to sync with Outlook from your phone, and then select OK. Select Outlook Sync on the Smart Switch screen and then select Sync Now. When syncing is complete, select Confirm.
