Using Picture Settings on your 2016 Smart TV (UN**K****)

Users can configure the Picture Settings on their 2016 SMART TV, such as picture mode, color tone etc. To better fit their viewing needs.

Choosing a Picture Mode

Select the picture mode that best suits your viewing environment.

  1. Press the Home button on your Samsung Smart Remote, to access the Home Screen.

  2. You can configure the TV's Universal Remote to control to control third-party cable boxes, Blu-ray players, and home theaters that do not support HDMI-CEC. For more information, refer to "Controlling External Devices with the Samsung Smart Control - Using the Universal Remote."

    Custom : Customize the aspect ratio manually.       

  3. Using the directional pad on your remote, navigate to and select Settings.

  5. Select Picture Mode.  

  6. The following Picture Modes are available:  

    Samsung Picture Mode Options
    • Standard: Default mode suitable for general viewing environments.

    • Dynamic: Pictures are brighter and clearer in bright viewing environments.

    • Natural: Reduces eye strain for a comfortable viewing experience.

    • Movie: Suitable for watching TV or movies in a dark room.

Adjusting the Picture

Configure advanced picture settings to create your preferred picture.

  1. Press the Home button on your Samsung Smart Remote, to access the Home Screen.

  2. Using the directional pad on your remote, navigate to and select Settings.

  4. Select Expert Settings to configure advanced picture settings to create your preferred picture.

  5. The following Picture Settings are available for adjustment.

    • Backlight : Adjust the backlight brightness levels. Brightness increases as the value nears 20.

    • Brightness: Improve overall picture brightness by adjusting the levels.  Brightness increases as the value nears 100. 

    • Contrast: Improve contrast by adjusting the levels.  Contrast between light and dark colors increases as the value nears 100.

    • Sharpness: Improve overall picture sharpness by adjusting the levels.  Picture sharpness increases as the value nears 100. 

    • Color: Adjust the color saturation levels. Color saturation intensifies as the value nears 100. 

    • Tint: Adjust the ratio of green to red tint levels. Increasing values intensifies the saturation of red and green colors.

Adjusting the Color Tone

Select the color tone that best suits your viewing preferences.

  1. Press the Home button on your Samsung Smart Remote, to access the Home Screen.

  2. Using the directional pad on your remote, navigate to and select Settings.

  4. Select Expert Settings.

  5. Scroll down the list and select Color Tone.

  6. The following options are available:  

    Samsung Photo Color Tone Options
    • Cool and Standard: are only available when Picture Mode is set to Dynamic. Cool adds a cool blue hue to colors, while Standard adds no hue to colors.

    • Warm1: adds a warm pink hue to colors.

    • Warm2: adds a stronger pink hue to colors.

Digital Clean View

Reduce picture noise to avoid distractions such as flickering.  To disable this feature, follow the steps below. 

  1. Press the Home button on your Samsung Smart Remote, to access the Home Screen.

  2. Using the directional pad on your remote, navigate to and select Settings.

  4. Select Expert Settings.

  5. Scroll down and select Digital Clean View.

  6. By default it is set to AUTO. To disable Digital Clean View, select Off.

HDMI UHD Color

Enable to optimize picture quality for HDMI UHD connection.

  1. Press the Home button on your Samsung Smart Remote, to access the Home Screen.

  2. Using the directional pad on your remote, navigate to and select Settings.

  4. Select Expert Settings.

  5. Scroll down and select HDMI UHD Color.

  6. Select the HDMI port that you would like to adjust.

  7. Select On to enable this feature.

    The HDMI connection with HDMI UHD Color set to Off supports up to UHD 50P/60P 4:2:0 input signals, while the HDMI connection with HDMI UHD Color set to On supports up to UHD 50P/60P 4:4:4 and 4:2:2 input signals.

  8. To fully enable HDMI UHD Color on your TV, users must restart their TV. Select Yes to restart your TV and to enable HDMI UHD Color.

Changing the Picture Size

Watching your TV in 4:3 mode for extended periods of time will cause screen burn-in. This happens when the black sidebars are on the screen for hours at a time. This type of damage is not covered by your Warranty.

Select the picture aspect ratio that best suits your viewing environment.

  1. Press the Home button on your Samsung Smart Remote, to access the Home Screen.

  5. The following options are available:  

    Samsung Picture Options
    • Picture Size: Select the picture aspect ratio.
      • 16:9 : Display the picture in widescreen aspect ratio.

      • Custom : Customize the aspect ratio manually.

      • 4:3 : Display the picture in Standard (low-def) aspect ratio. Suitable for videos and standard broadcasts.

    • Fit to Screen: When selected, the full image will be displayed. No part of the image will be cut off.

    • Zoom/Position: Adjust the picture size and/or position.

More Picture Settings

Settings Description
Auto Motion Plus Enhance picture sharpness to optimize for fast-moving images: Auto Motion Plus, Blur Reduction, Judder Reduction, LED Clear Motion.
Smart LED Control the brightness of individual areas on the screen to automatically maximize contrast.
Film Mode Enable Film mode to make frame transitions from older video sources smoother.  This function is only available when the input signal is TV, AV, Component (480i, 1080i), or HDMI (1080i).
HDMI Black Level Adjust the black level to optimize the HDMI picture brightness and contrast. 
Dynamic Contrast Automatically balance the contrast to prevent excessive differences between bright and dark areas. 
Color Tone Select the color tone that best suits your viewing preferences.
White Balance Adjust the color temperature of the picture so that white objects appear brighter.
Gamma Adjust the mid-range brightness of the picture.
RGB Only Mode Fine-tune the saturation and tint of the red, green, and blue color channels. 
Color Space Configure color space settings to refine the spectrum of colors on your screen. 
Reset Picture Restore all picture settings to the factory default.
