Using the Picture Settings on Your 2017 UHD TV

For a personalized viewing experience, use Picture Settings on your UHD TV to make adjustments to the picture mode, color tone, and more.

Adjusting the Picture

Configure advanced picture settings to create your preferred picture.

1. Press the Home button on your remote.

2. Navigate to Settings > Picture > Expert Settings.

3. The following Picture Settings are available for adjustment:

  • Backlight - This setting allows you to adjust how much light the screen produces. You may want to turn this up if your room is particularly bright, and turn it down if your room is dark.
  • Brightness - This setting changes the brightness of the screen.
  • Contrast - This setting allows you to adjust the contrast or dark and light elements of the display.
  • Sharpness - This setting allows you to adjust how sharp your picture will appear.
  • Color - This setting intensifies the saturation of colors on your screen.
  • Tint (G/R) - This setting allows you to change the picture hue between green and red. It might take you a few tries to get the perfect setting for your environment, but rest assured that your Samsung TV display will look great right out of the box.

Adjusting the Color Tone

Select the color tone that best suits your viewing preferences.

1. Press the Home button on your remote.

2. Navigate to Settings > Picture > Expert Settings > Color Tone.

3. The following options are available:

  • Cool - Adds a cool blue hue to colors. Only available when the picture mode is set to Dynamic.
  • Standard - Does not add any hue to colors. Only available when the picture mode is set to Dynamic.
  • Warm1 - Adds a warm pink hue to colors.
  • Warm2 - Adds a stronger pink hue to colors.

Changing the Picture Size

Watching your TV in 4:3 mode for extended periods of time will cause screen burn-in. This happens when the black sidebars are on the screen for hours at a time. This type of damage is not covered by your Warranty.

Select the picture aspect ratio that best suits your viewing environment.

1. Press the Home button on your remote.

2. Navigate to Settings > Picture > Picture Size Settings.

3. The following options are available:

  • Picture Size - Select the picture aspect ratio
    • 16:9 Standard - Displays the picture in widescreen aspect ratio. This is the standard ratio for TVs today.

        

         

    • Custom - Customize the aspect ratio manually

         

    • 4:3 - Displays the picture in Standard (low-def) aspect ratio. Suitable for old videos and shows.

         

  • Fit to Screen - The full image will be displayed. No part of the image will be cut off.

    The availability of this function depends on the Picture Size Settings.

       

  • Zoom and Position - Adjust the picture size and/or position.

    This function is only available if the Picture Size is set to Custom..

    To change the picture position on analog channels, enlarge the picture first and then change the position

Digital Clean View

If the broadcast signal received by your TV is weak, Digital Clean View reduces any static and ghosting that may appear on the screen.

This function is for analog channels only.

Digital Clean View is turned on by default.

To Disable Digital Clean View, follow the steps below:

1. Press the Home button on your remote.

2. Navigate to Settings > Picture > Expert Settings > Digital Clean View.

3. To disable Digital Clean View, select it.

Game Mode

Enable Game Mode to optimize the TV's settings for playing video games with a gaming console. Game mode is not available for normal TV viewing.

1. Press the Home button on your remote.

2. Navigate to Settings > General > External Device Manager > Game Mode.

3. To enable Game Mode, select On.

When Game mode is enabled, the Picture and the Sound Modes are switched to Game automatically.

HDMI UHD Color

The HDMI connection with HDMI UHD Color set to Off supports up to UHD 50P/60P 4:2:0 input signals, while the HDMI connection with HDMI UHD Color set to On supports up to UHD 50P/60P 4:4:4 and 4:2:2 input signals.

If an external UHD player is connected to the TV, use the HDMI UHD Color function to convert the TV's HDMI connecter to a mode optimized for UHD 50P/60P signals.

1. Press the Home button on your remote.

2. Navigate to Settings > General > External Device Manager.

3. Select HDMI UHD Color.

4. Select the HDMI port that you want HDMI UHD Color enabled.

More Picture Settings

Settings Description
Auto Motion Plus Settings Enhance picture sharpness to optimize for fast-moving images: Auto Motion Plus, Blur Reduction, Judder Reduction, LED Clear Motion.
Contrast Enhancer Control the brightness of individual areas on the screen to automatically maximize contrast.
HDR+ Mode Automatically provide an optimal HDR effect based on the video source.The HDR (High Dynamic Range) technology implements video images that are very similar to the images seen through human eyes by finely adjusting the contrast of the source.
Film Mode Enable Film mode to make frame transitions from older video sources smoother.  This function is only available when the input signal is TV, AV, Component (480i, 1080i), or HDMI (1080i).
White Balance Adjust the color temperature of the picture so that white objects appear brighter.
Gamma Adjust the mid-range brightness of the picture.
RGB Only Mode Fine-tune the saturation and tint of the red, green, and blue color channels. 
Color Space Settings Configure color space settings to refine the spectrum of colors on your screen. 
Reset Picture Restore all picture settings to the factory default.

Troubleshooting

Flickering and Dimming:

  • You may need to disable some energy saving features (Settings > General > Eco Solution). Try disabling Power Saving Mode, Ambient Light Detection, and/or Motion Lighting.

Unwanted Powering Off:

  • Disable Sleep Timer (Settings > General > System Manager > Time > Sleep Timer).
  • Disable Auto Power Off (Settings > General > Eco Solution > Auto Power Off).

There is a dotted line on the edge of the screen:

  • Change the Picture Size setting to 16:9.
