Phone Not Charging

Learn how to charge your Samsung phone and get help when the it does not charge.

You must use the Samsung factory travel charger to charge your device. Using a third-party charger can hinder the charging of the device and may cause long term battery problems.

Device Won’t Charge or Charges Slowly

  1. Verify the phone has no liquid damage. 

      • Inspect the Liquid Damage Indicator (LDI) in the SIM tray slot. The LDI indicators should be solid white or white with visible pink/purple Xs. If the phone has been exposed to moisture, the LDI will be solid pink, purple, or red.

  2. Verify that the phone has no physical damage.

      • Make sure connectors are not corroded, bent, broken, or pushed in.
      • The USB connection should be firm, with very little mobility.

  3. Press and hold the Power and Volume Down button for 30 seconds.

  4. Connect and charge the phone using the factory travel charger for at least 1 hour.

    The battery charging indicator may take up to 10 minutes to appear on the phone screen.

  5. If possible, test with an alternate charger.

  6. If the device does not charge after performing the troubleshooting steps above, service is recommended.

Device Won’t Charge While Connected to a PC

  • Galaxy phones do have the ability to charge while connected via USB to a PC. The device will charge at a slower rate than with a travel charger. However, this charging method is slower than using the travel charger.

  • Power off your device so it can charge without using power.

  • If the PC has an available USB 3.0 port, often marked in blue, faster charging may be available.
