Perform a Powerwash on Your Chromebook Pro

A Powerwash is a Factory Reset that is used prior to performing a system recovery. Performing a Powerwash will resolve most software issues and does not require the creation of Recovery Media. You can also perform a recovery on your Chromebook Pro.

Performing a Powerwash will erase all user accounts and local data. Prior to performing a Powerwash, it is recommended that you backup any important data using a USB drive, SD Card, or  Google Drive.

  1. To perform a Powerwash, select the Status Tray on the desktop.

  2. Select Settings.

  3. Scroll down and select Show advanced settings.

  4. Scroll down and select Powerwash.

  5. Select Restart.

  6. After your Chromebook has restarted, select Powerwash and Revert.

  7. It will take a couple of minutes for the Powerwash to take place and will erase all user accounts and local data.
