Connect your Galaxy Buds or Gear IconX

Phone showing Galaxy Wearable app connection screen to pair/connect earbuds

Some things are just better paired together, and that goes double for your earbuds and phone. Connect your earbuds with your phone or another device so you can stream music. With the Galaxy Wearable app on your phone or tablet, you can control the earbuds, adjust certain settings, and more.

Note: To connect your earbuds to a phone or tablet, install the Galaxy Wearable app. You can download the app on phones and tablets running Android 5.0 or higher with RAM 1.5GB and above.

Earbud compatibility

Some features won't appear unless you've already connected the earbuds at least once. Samsung Health 5.11 version is required for Auto Activity Tracker, and Galaxy Wearable is supported for Ambient Sound and Gear Manager settings. Samsung Health is not compatible with tablets.

Note: Auto Activity Tracker, fitness coaching, and Gear Manager settings (music transfer and other settings) are not available for Galaxy Buds.

  • Samsung phones and tablets: Streaming music, standalone music, call, auto activity tracker, fitness coaching, ambient sound, touch pad controls, and Gear Manager settings (music transfer and other settings).

  • Other android phones and tablets: Streaming music, standalone music, call, auto activity tracker, fitness coaching, ambient sound, touch pad controls, and Gear Manager settings (music transfer via PC application and other settings).

  • iOS phones and tablets: Streaming music, call, touch pad controls, and Gear Manager settings (music transfer via Mac application).

Pair earbuds using the Galaxy Wearable app

Pairing your earbuds to your phone or tablet is practically effortless. If you've already paired your earbuds with a phone or tablet, just open the charging case to reconnect them.

If you need to connect a new pair, open the Galaxy Wearable app, and then tap Get started. Place your earbuds in the charging case, close the lid for 5 to 6 seconds, and then open the case. Next, select Galaxy Buds or Gear IconX from the list of devices, review the permissions, and then tap OK. When your device is spotted, select it, then pairing and setup will begin.

Pick your device screen with a list of devices

Next, review the information, and tap Agree. Select which notifications you want to receive on your earbuds, and then tap Next. Finally, review the tips on getting to know your earbuds, and then tap Finish.

If you want to disconnect the earbuds from your phone or tablet manually, open the Galaxy Wearable app, tap Menu or More Options, and then select Disconnect. Tap Disconnect again to confirm.

Pair earbuds using Bluetooth

Note: Some devices, especially those that are not tested or approved by the Bluetooth SIG, may be incompatible with the earbuds.

Got an iPhone, another Android, a computer, watch, or any device that doesn't support the Galaxy Wearable app? No worries, you can use earbuds just like other Bluetooth headphones.

Pair the earbuds to another device

When the earbuds are paired with one device but you want to connect to another, a reset is not required. With Samsung earbuds and Galaxy Wearable, there are a few ways to switch devices.

Galaxy Buds

Touch and hold both touchpads while the earbuds are inserted in your ears. After hearing an initial sound, you'll hear a constant coupling sound. This means the earbuds are now in pairing mode and you can connect to the second device. If you have issues connecting to the second device, turn off Bluetooth on the first device.

For Gear IconX, insert the earbuds in the charging case and close the lid. Then, perform the step specific to your model:

Gear IconX (2018)

Gear IconX (2017)

Remove the earbuds from the case and insert both earbuds into your ears to enter pairing mode.

Once the earbuds are in pairing mode, connect them to the other device via the Galaxy Wearable app, or the Bluetooth settings if the app isn't compatible. If the Galaxy Wearable app is currently connected to a device, tap Menu > Add new device or More options > Connect new Gear, and then follow the prompts to complete the connection.

Switch connections between paired devices

If you paired the earbuds to two different phones or tablets using Galaxy Wearable, you can switch between them easily. Open the Galaxy Wearable app on the phone or tablet that is not connected to the earbuds. The earbuds should automatically connect to the phone or tablet. If Galaxy Wearable is already open, you may simply tap CONNECT.

When you're ready to switch back to the first device, open the Bluetooth settings on the second device, and then tap the earbuds. The earbuds will disconnect from the second device. To reconnect with the first device, open the Bluetooth settings on the first device and tap the earbuds.
