Unlock the Galaxy tablet with your face or fingerprints
Imagine a password so secure that no one but you can bypass it. This is actually already a reality because your Galaxy tablet uses you as its password, or more specifically, your face or fingerprints. When you use your biometrics to unlock your tablet, you'll never have to worry about security.
Note: Available screens and settings may vary by wireless service provider, software version, and model.
Note: To use face recognition, you need to set a PIN, pattern, or password first.
Your face is unique to you, even if you are a twin! This makes your face one of the best security features in your arsenal.
From Settings, and then tap Biometrics and security. Tap Face recognition, and then follow the on-screen prompts to set up your face.
Once your face is registered, review the security options and settings:
Face unlock: Unlocks your tablet when your face is recognized.
Stay on Lock screen: Stay on the Lock screen until you swipe even if you already used Face recognition.
Faster recognition: Faster recognition improves speed but reduces security, increasing the possibility of a video or image being incorrectly recognized as your face.
Brighten screen: Increase screen brightness temporarily so your face can be recognized in the dark.
Samsung Pass: Use face recognition to verify your identity with the Internet app and other supported apps.
Note: To unlock with your fingerprints, you need to set a PIN, pattern, or password first.
While your face is a great form of security, your fingerprints are also just as unique and secure. Once you register your fingerprints, you can enter your tablet with a simple tap.
From Settings, tap Biometrics and security. Tap Fingerprints, enter the lock screen credentials, and then tap Continue. Next, tap Add fingerprint, follow the on-screen prompts, and then tap Done.
To rename the fingerprints, tap the desired fingerprint, enter the desired name, and then tap Save.
Or, to remove a fingerprint, tap the desired fingerprint, and then tap Remove.
Once your fingerprint is registered, review the available features:
Fingerprint unlock: Turn Fingerprint unlock on or off.
Samsung Pass: Use your fingerprints to verify your identity with Internet and other supported apps.
Note: The in-screen fingerprint scanner is only available on the Tab S5e and the Tab S6. The Tab S4 does not have a fingerprint scanner, whereas the Tab S3 and Tab S2 have a fingerprint scanner on their Home key.
If your tablet has an in-display fingerprint sensor, setting it up and using it is incredibly simple.
From Settings, tap Biometrics and security. If needed, enter your lock screen credentials; a lock screen is required to use Fingerprint unlock.
Next, tap Continue, and then tap Add fingerprint or Fingerprints. Follow the on-screen prompts to register your finger, and then tap Done.
Now you can unlock your tablet by simply placing the registered finger on the in-screen sensor, which is located right above the Home button.
Note: This feature is not available on all tablets. It also requires a lock screen to be set up.
They say eyes are the window to your soul. Well, they can also be the security code for your tablet! Because with Iris scan, your irises can unlock the tablet's screen.
From Settings, tap Biometric and security, and then tap Irises. Tap Continue, and then tap Continue one more time. From there, follow the on-screen instructions to register your irises. You may need to remove your glasses to get the best results.
When it's done, make sure the switch next to Iris unlock is turned on. When your tabet will automatically open whenever it detects and scans your irises.
