Use the Connectime app on your Samsung TV
Use the Connectime app on your Samsung TV
Set up the ConnecTime app
First, you will have to set up ConnecTime on your TV and phone.
- Using the TV remote, navigate to Home, and then select Daily+ from the menu. If the ConnecTime app is not showing, it needs to be downloaded from the app store.
- Select ConnecTime.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to sign in on your TV.
- Next, scan the QR code displayed on the TV with your phone to download the ConnecTime app. You can also download the ConnecTime app on the Play Store on your phone.
- When prompted, allow the permissions to your contacts app.
- Your contacts will then appear in the ConnecTime app on your TV, so you can call them at any time!
Make a call with ConnecTime
Now for the fun part! You can begin a call by selecting a contact who also has ConnecTime installed, or by inviting someone to chat with you. If the contact has a Samsung account, they will be automatically added to your contact list on your TV.
- Using your TV's remote, navigate to and open the ConnecTime app, and then select Invite.
- Scan the displayed QR code to begin the call. Also, you can share the Call ID with the person you would like to call.
- Select Allow to let the contact join your call. You may also deny requests if needed.
- To make a call on your Galaxy phone instead, navigate to and open the ConnecTime app, then select Invite.
- Tap Share, then select your desired sharing method.
- Select Allow to let the contact join your call.
Receive and join a ConnecTime call
When you receive a call through ConnecTime, a notification will appear on your TV and on your connected phone.
- Using your TV's remote, select Join on the ConnecTime notification.
- Enter the Call ID and your name, and then select Join on TV. Wait a moment for the caller to accept.
- If you would like to use your phone instead, tap the URL on the ConnecTime notification.
- Enter the Call ID and your name, then select Join.
Additional ConnecTime functions
Screen cast
There are a few other ways to make video calls with the ConnecTime app. For instance, you can transfer a call from your phone to your TV by tapping the Cast icon in the app on your phone. Then, select your TV to begin casting.
Use Bixby to make and respond to calls
Even if you don’t have a webcam connected to your TV, you can still use ConnecTime. The TV’s built-in microphone will activate when a call begins, so you can speak to and hear the person who is calling. You can also ask Bixby to answer calls or start a call for you! Just say, "Bixby, make a call in the video call app."
Send a video message
You can send video messages from your phone to another person’s TV. Select the other party in the call, and then select a video message instead of a call. You can record and input videos in advance on your phone, or you can record in real-time.
When a video message appears on the other TV, a notification will appear in the upper right corner of the ConnectTime app. This notification will also appear when the TV is turned on or if the other person is watching TV. Sent video messages are kept for up to 72 hours.
Mobile screen sharing
You can also share your screen with the other party during the call. Select Mobile Screen Sharing on the call screen, and then grant the necessary permissions. The screen can then be shared with the other party.
Join a call without a USB camera
You can join a call when a USB camera isn’t connected to your TV. The TV’s built-in microphone will activate when you join a call, so you can speak to and hear the person who is calling. This function is only supported by Samsung TVs with a built in microphone.
Connect a phone camera
This feature is only available for phones running Android 10 and later or iOS 13 and later.
- From the TV’s Home screen, select Connected Device, then select Connection Guide, and then select Phone.
- Select Camera Sharing. Scan the provided QR code, and then connect your phone.
- If your phone is not connected, you can add the TV to your phone using your phone’s SmartThings app. Select the TV’s card in the SmartThings app, and then select Camera Sharing.
