Use the virtual keyboard
Activate the keyboard

When you need to input text, simply interact with any text field or input area in your virtual environment. The virtual keyboard will automatically appear on your screen, positioned to be easily accessible and visible within your field of view. This default placement ensures a seamless and intuitive typing experience, allowing you to focus on your tasks without interruption.
Type with the virtual keyboard
- Direct Touch Input: Use your index finger to directly poke the keycaps on the keyboard. As your index finger approaches the keyboard, the reticle cursor will appear more blurry, indicating that direct touch is activated.
- Pinch Input: Aim your hands towards the keycaps and pinch them without directly touching the keyboard. This method is particularly useful when the keyboard is at a far distance.
Move the virtual keyboard
- Reposition the keyboard: Pinch the outer area of the virtual keyboard and move it around, similar to how you would move windows on a computer screen. This allows you to place the keyboard in a more convenient location for your current task.
- Dismiss the keyboard: To close the keyboard, pinch outside the virtual keyboard or point to and pinch the X button located on the top right corner of the keyboard.
Virtual keyboard tips
- Adjust your workspace: Ensure that your workspace setup allows easy access to the default keyboard position. If necessary, reposition your seating or screen placement for better convenience.
- Alternative input methods: If you find the virtual keyboard uncomfortable, consider using a Bluetooth keyboard or voice input, which are supported by the Galaxy XR.
Frequently asked questions
The virtual keyboard resets to its default position to ensure it's always visible and accessible. Currently, manual customization isn't supported. Adjust your workspace or seating to better align with the default position for easier use.
The virtual keyboard is designed to recognize only the index finger for input, ensuring accuracy and consistency, as it's the most commonly used finger for typing.
Why isn't the virtual keyboard input working?
Try these two methods:
- Pinch input: Point to a key and pinch it to input.
- Direct touch: Use your index finger to tap a key. The keyboard will appear blurry as you approach and become clearer when you're ready to type.
Can I connect peripherals like a keyboard or mouse directly to the USB-C port on the Galaxy XR?
Yes, the USB-C port allows you to connect peripherals such as a mouse, keyboard, or other compatible devices, just like on phones.
Why does the virtual keyboard feel uncomfortable to use?
The input method may take some getting used to. If it's not comfortable, you can use a Bluetooth keyboard or voice input instead. To pair peripherals like a mouse, keyboard, or gamepad, press the Top button on the headset to open the Launcher. Then, point to and pinch Settings, and then point to and pinch Connections. Point to and pinch Bluetooth, then select the Settings icon (it looks like a gear) next to the paired device to adjust the available input options.
