Google Account on Galaxy phone or tablet does not sync

If your Google account is not syncing on your Galaxy phone or tablet, or you see a sync error, there are a few things that could solve the problem. You may have sync turned off, the items you want to sync may not be selected, or you may need to check your network connections first.

If your Google Drive, Gmail, and Photos storage is full, Google will stop syncing new data. You can't upload files, create documents, back up photos, or send or receive emails in Gmail. Visit the Google Help Center for support with managing your Google storage.

Restart your phone or tablet.

A simple restart can often resolve syncing problems.

Swipe down from the top right corner of the screen to open the Quick panel settings. Then, tap the Power icon. Tap Restart, and then tap Restart again. Your device will automatically restart.Galaxy A16 5G displaying a Restart confirmation screen with the Restart button highlighted.

Check your network connection.

Ensure your device is connected to a Wi-Fi or mobile network.

Swipe down from the top right corner of the screen to open the Quick panel settings:

  • To verify you're connected to a mobile network, check the status bar. Look at the top of your screen for the mobile network icon. A signal strength indicator (bars) or a network type (e.g., 4G, 5G, LTE) indicates a mobile network connection.
  • To check if you're connected to Wi-Fi, tap the Settings icon (gear) in the right corner of the Quick panel settings. Tap Connections, then tap Wi-Fi. Verify you're connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Check for software updates.

Ensure your device is running the latest software.

Swipe down from the top right corner of the screen to open the Quick panel settings. Tap the Settings icon, and then swipe to and then tap Software update or System updates. It will vary between models. Tap Download and install, Check for system updates, or Check for software updates, depending on your carrier. If an update is available, it should begin downloading automatically, although you may need to tap Download now on some devices. When the download is complete, follow the on-screen instructions to install the update.

Make sure Auto sync data is enabled.

Before proceeding, ensure that Auto-sync data is enabled on your phone or tablet.

Swipe down from the top right corner of the screen to open the Quick panel settings. Manually sync your Google Account.

If your Google account is not syncing properly, ensure that the account's auto-sync settings are turned on.

Swipe down from the top right corner of the screen to open the Quick panel settings. Then, tap the Settings icon (gear) in the right corner of the screen. Swipe to and tap Accounts and backup, and then tap Manage account. Tap the desired Google account, and then tap Sync account.

  • If auto sync is turned off, tap each item in the menu to manually sync each feature with your account.
  • You can also tap the More Options icon (three vertical dots) in the top right corner of the screen, and then tap Sync now if you want to sync all menu items immediately.

Verify if there are any issues with your Google account.

If you're account still isn't syncing, confirm there are no problems with your Google account. Try signing in to your Google Account from the internet browser on your phone or tablet, or another device.

  • If you can sign in successfully, the issue lies with your phone or tablet. Proceed to the next step in this guide.
  • If you can not sign in, there may be an issue with your Google account. Visit Google Help Center for support with your Google account.

Remove and re-add your Google account.

If the issue persists, remove and re-add your account to reset the connection. Remember, you'll need your username or email address and password to re-add your account after removal.

Swipe down from the top right corner of the screen to open the Quick panel settings. Tap the Settings icon, and then swipe to and then tap Accounts and backup. Tap Manage accounts,

  • To remove your account, tap your Google account, and then tap Remove account. Tap Remove to confirm.

  • If you do not know your username or email address, or password, visit Google Help Center to recover your account or reset your password.
