Too much ice is made in Samsung ice maker

Samsung's ice makers are designed to stop when they're full. There are two methods for this: either an optical sensor or a mechanical arm, which detects when ice has piled high enough. If your ice maker won't stop making ice, it means ice is not piling high enough to reach the sensor or arm, typically because the ice bucket is not in the proper position.

The two ice maker buckets rest on top of an ice maker shelf that is designed to go immediately under the ice maker on the highest rail. If the ice maker shelf is placed in a lower position, ice will overflow from the bucket since it requires more ice to reach high enough for the ice level arm to come in contact with the ice.

Top mount refrigerator

The ice bucket in a top mount refrigerator is designed to be positioned in a specific way. The front and left sides are important to stay in their proper position, as shown in the following image. If the bucket is installed backwards or sideways, the ice will not pile properly to reach the sensor arm and will overflow.
