Reset the ice maker in the back of freezer door

If the ice maker in your Samsung freezer door is not making ice, resetting it can help restore normal operation. You’ll need to remove the ice bucket, use the test button, and make sure everything clicks back into place. If the problem isn’t fixed right away, you can try unplugging your refrigerator before repeating the steps.

Remove the ice bucket.

Note

Do not press Test repeatedly after the ice tray is filled with ice or water. The water may overflow or the ice may jam.

Newer models: Use the handle on the side to remove the ice bucket.

Older models (ice maker cover): For older models, you only need to remove the ice maker cover instead. Gently lift it up and pull it out slowly while holding the handgrips with both hands.

Test the ice maker.

Once the ice bucket has been removed, locate the Test button at the left side of the bottom of the ice maker. Press and hold the Test (A) button until you hear a chime.

If you don't hear a chime, but you can see movement from the ice maker, then the ice maker was reset.
If you don't hear a chime and there is no movement from the ice maker, unplug the fridge or turn it off at the circuit breaker for 2 minutes. Then, power it back up and try again.

Note

If the ice bucket is not in place correctly once the door is closed, the refrigerator display will indicate this with a flashing Ice Off icon, or in another way, depending on your model.

Newer models: The button is found on the bottom, towards the left side of the ice maker.

Older models: The button is found on the front, towards the left side of the ice maker. You may need to also remove the ice maker cover to easily see and reach it.

Reattach ice bucket.

Ice bucket: When you're putting the ice bucket back in, it should click into place. If it does not, turn the gear handle on the rear of the bucket by 90 degrees and try again.

Ice maker cover: If the ice maker cover was removed, place it back the same way it was removed, until it clicks into place.

Continue troubleshooting.

Your ice maker has been reset. If it chimes one time, your ice maker has passed the test. If the ice maker chimes multiple times, visit our Support Center to request service.
