Samsung dishwasher is leaking or has a leakage error code
Samsung dishwasher is leaking or has a leakage error code
Is your dishwasher visibly leaking, or displaying a leakage error code without a visible leak?
Confirm that it is a leak and not a spill.
Turn off the power to the dishwasher.
Inspect the water supply hose.
When inspecting, look and feel for moisture, damage, loose connections, or gaps between the assembled parts. Make sure to inspect:
- Where the hose connects to the dishwasher
- Where the hose connects to your home
- The entire length of the hose
The water supply hose is sold separately and not covered by service. If it's the source of the leak, chances are you can reinstall it to seal up any gaps or loose connections. If that doesn't work, you can just replace the hose.
We recommend a 3/8 inch stainless steel hose since plastic hoses are more prone to leaks. You can buy a new hose from a local hardware store.
Once you have a good water supply hose, or to try to reinstall the old one, refer to the installation guide or a professional installer.
Inspect the drain hose.
Although the drain hose is part of the dishwasher, if it's not connected to the home properly, it is not considered an issue with the dishwasher and is not covered by service.
So if the drain hose's connection to the home is where the leak is coming from, all you need to do is install the drain hose correctly. This might be as simple as tightening the connection. Instructions are in the installation guide provided with your dishwasher.
For leaks anywhere else along the drain hose, visit our Support Center to request service.
Inspect the rubber seal.
Sometimes the rubber seal can get pushed out of alignment. If this happens, just push it back into the channel.
It's also important that the seal is very clean. Any foreign material on the seal could potentially create a gap big enough for water to leak out. A towel with mild soap is a good way to clean it off.
If the rubber seal is damaged, visit our Support Center to request service.
Only use dishwasher detergent, not dish soap.
If you notice an excessive amount of suds when you open the door, you may be using the wrong kind of detergent. Pay close attention to the type of detergent on the label: dishwasher detergent is made for dishwashers, and dishwashing liquid (or dish soap) is intended for handwashing.
Using dish soap or dishwashing liquid in a dishwasher will create excessive amounts of suds that can escape the dishwasher and cause leaks. This also reduces cleaning performance and can leave soapy residue behind on your dishes and dishwasher that you'll then have to wash off.
If you're not sure, read the entire label and look for the word dishwasher specifically (that ends with "-er"). If it's for dishwashers, it will say so. If it doesn't say it's for dishwashers, then it's not.
Level your dishwasher.
If the dishwasher is not level left to right, the door could be bumping the cabinets on either side, preventing it from closing completely.
If the dishwasher is not level front to back, and especially if the front is lower than the back, water will pool up at the door and potentially leak out.
Level the dishwasher to prevent any of this from happening.
Verify the sides of the tub are not bowed or stretched.
If the cabinet screws are over-tightened, it will stretch the sides of the dishwasher, causing gaps that can leak.
Measure across the opening exactly where the screws are. It should measure exactly 22 inches. If it measures more than that, loosen the cabinet screws until the issue is corrected.
If your unit is a Waterwall model, make sure that no dishes or utensils are obstructing the movement of the water reflector.
Inspect the water nozzles.
If there's food stuck in the nozzles (or the jets or anywhere that water sprays out of), the food may be diverting the spray of water to spray straight at the door with enough force to push it through the seal, causing a leak. Make sure all the nozzles and jets are clean.
Set up service.
That completes the steps you can fix yourself. If your dishwasher is still leaking, visit our Support Center to request service.
Unplug the dishwasher or turn it off at the circuit breaker.
Inspect for a visible leak.
Check the garbage disposal cap.
Look for lingering excess detergent.
Give it time to dry.
If you recently moved the dishwasher, some water may have splashed near the sensor underneath. Give it time to dry. If the noise from the dishwasher is bothersome, leave it unplugged or turned off at the circuit breaker.
Restore power, check for the error, and request service if needed.
