What should I do when my Samsung Air conditioner makes noise?

Ignoring the mysterious noises from your AC can turn minor issues into major expenses, as these noises could signal anything from needing a simple tune-up to costly repairs, to worst-case replacement of the entire unit. The sooner you can determine the cause of the noise and resolve your AC issues, the better.

If you hear a loud noise or vibration coming from the air conditioner, check the sound if it comes from the indoor unit or the outdoor unit,  try the suggested solution in the table below.

 

Indoor unit noise - Cause and solution

Banging / Clanking / Rattling

- When the indoor unit is not level.

- When an obstacle hits the indoor unit.

- When the parts inside the compressor are loose.

- Please install the indoor unit in a level and flat location.

- Please remove any obstacles that you see such as curtains, foreign substance

- Please contact the Samsung service center.

Clicking

- When starting and shutting down the air conditioner

- It is a normal part of the system’s operation. However, constant or ongoing clicking is not typical. Please contact the Samsung service center.

Buzzing

- When the air filter is clogged with dust.

- Please clean the air conditioner filter or replace the filter. 

Gas or water flowing noise

- When the refrigerant gas circulates in the product.

- When water is generated in the product during operation.

- It is a normal part of the system’s operation.

Squealing

- When some air conditioner units start operating.

- When the indoor unit fan motor is in bad condition.

- It is a normal noise when the air conditioner starts operating.

- Please contact the Samsung service center when the indoor unit fan motor is in bad condition.

Continuous beep noise

- When there is a technical issue or continuously giving a command.

- When there is a technical issue or continuously giving a command.

- Make sure the remote button is pressed. If this button is pressed, please release it.

- Please reset the display by pressing the “+” and “-” temperature buttons of the control panel simultaneously and hold it for 3 sec.

- If the beep sound continues, please contact the Samsung service center.

High-pitched whistling or screaming

- When the refrigerant leaks or the pressure inside the compressor is high.

- Please turn off the air conditioner immediately and contact the Samsung service center.

Outdoor unit noise - Cause and solution

Note: If noise occurs in the outdoor unit, unplug the outdoor unit and plug it in again after 30 seconds.

- When the outdoor unit is not level.

- When there is a foreign substance in the entrance or inside the outdoor unit.

- Please install the outdoor unit in a level and flat location.

- Switch the unit off and remove the grill to see if there are any foreign substances there.

Gas or water flowing noise

- When refrigerant gas circulates inside the product.

- When water drains and flows to the outside.

- It is a normal part of the system’s operation.

Motor or compressor sound

- When the outdoor unit's compressor operates for producing indoor heating or cooling.

- It is a normal part of the system’s operation.

Please see the below diagram to get an exact idea of the installation standards , to make sure that every things is correct.

Note

  • The appearance of the unit may be different from the diagram depending on your model.
  • The Indoor unit that is installed inside the room should always be at a greater height than the outdoor unit.
  • The length of the pipe that connects the indoor and outdoor unit should be at least 3 meters.
  • The height difference between the indoor and outdoor unit from the ground depends on the model and the length of the pipe used. Refer to the installation manual for the maximum pipe length and height difference.
