This hard drive has really withstood the test of time for me, in general, my heart drives tend to take a dump at some point for various reasons. But this one has really lasted me quite some time. Already out-performing the predecessor in speed, durability, reliability, interfacing with my computer, and consistency. I highly recommend for the price point this quality product.

Every previous spinning hard disk drive that I have ever owned has failed and lost memory. Even the few actual solid state drives that were not made by Samsung eventually died on me. Years later after having built this media server the only working drives left are all SSD's and all made by Samsung. Haven't failed me yet so no point trying to fix or change something that's not broken. I run about 12 samsung SSD's ranging from about 2TB - 4TB each. Not to mention the search and loading times I can pull off becuase of these, still has my friends feeling jealous. compared to their systems.

While NVMe drives are much faster on paper, the 870 EVO delivers excellent real-world performance, reliability, and compatibility for systems that use SATA connections. It consistently reaches the limits of the SATA III interface with read speeds up to 560 MB/s and write speeds up to 530 MB/s. What impressed me most is the drive's responsiveness and reliability. Large file transfers remain fast, boot times are quick, and applications load noticeably faster compared to traditional hard drives. Samsung's TLC V-NAND technology, strong endurance rating, hardware encryption support, and 5-year warranty make it a solid long-term storage solution. The 4TB capacity is perfect for gamers, content creators, NAS users, and anyone needing a large amount of dependable storage. Installation is straightforward, and compatibility across desktops, laptops, and many NAS devices is excellent. The only real downside is price. Compared to many modern NVMe SSDs, the 870 EVO can cost more while offering lower maximum speeds due to the limitations of the SATA interface. However, if your system only supports SATA or you need a reliable high-capacity 2.5-inch SSD, it's hard to find a better option. Top-tier SATA speeds: Samsung quotes up to ~560 MB/s read and ~530 MB/s write for this model. That means for SATA-based systems, you’re basically saturating the interface — all the “SATA‐capable” speed you can get. Strong endurance: The specification for the 4 TB model is rated at 2,400 TBW (terabytes written) over its warranty period. That’s reassuring for heavy usage such as using for your primary OS drive like I do. I love the solid guarantee i get wirh the 5 year warranty from Samsung. It certainly gives me peace of mind for my long-term investments in their top notch storage offerings. Samsung is a mature, trusted brand & ecosystem. The “EVO” line has built a strong reputation in the space and is clearly a leader, as Samsung is in most of the spaces it competes in . This means good firmware support, reliable behavior, and strong compatibility between devices and because it’s SATA 6 Gb/s and the common 2.5″ 7m7m form-factor, it works in lots of desktops and many laptops. The drive is supported by Samsung’s “Magician” software (for health monitoring, firmware updates, drive maintenance). That’s a nice bonus for users who like to keep tabs, but i personally use it only for the firmware updates (which is highly recommend you stay recent on for any fixes and patches needed). In sum, its a good all-round performer with very solid performance and improvements (especially in random-read/write) over earlier generations.
