SmartThings Arrival sensor is leaving and arriving

Last Update date : Aug 01. 2022

If your Samsung SmartThings Arrival sensor is leaving or arriving constantly, follow these steps:

1 The sensor may be out of range. Move it closer to the Connect Home, or extend the range of your ZigBee network using repeaters
2 The Arrival Sensors are rated for indoor use only. Minimise exposure to freezing temperatures as severe cold can have a negative impact on overall performance
3 Delete the sensor

On Samsung SmartThings home screen, tap Arrival Sensors > tap More (3 vertical dots on the top right) > Edit > Delete device
4 Reset the sensor

a. Tap + on the home screen > Add Device > SmartThings > Presence Sensor
b. While the Connect Home is searching, press and hold the Connect button in the sensor until the LED turns off (about 6 seconds)
5 Increase the Presence Timeout. The Arrival Sensor's default presence timeout is 2 minutes. The Connect Home pings for the arrival sensor every 20 seconds. Once the arrival sensor misses six pings (2 minute default), the Connect Home will report the sensor as Away (to avoid false departure events in the case of incorrectly missed pings).

a. Log into https://graph-ap02-apnortheast2.api.smartthings.com/ and click My Hubs > View Utilities
b. Click the dropdown list for Update Presence Timeout (Minutes) and select the desired presence timeout (values of 2-10 minutes). The timeout cannot be set below 2 minutes to avoid false departure events.
c. Click Update
6 Check the battery level. Change the battery when the level is low
