Transferring Content From IOS Devices using PC/Mac Smart Switch

1/6 -Prerequisites

  1. Ensure that your PC or Mac and your iOS device meet the system requirements for Smart Switch (see the Smart Switch for PC requirements and the Smart Switch for Mac requirements topics on the Introduction page).

  2. Ensure that the type of data you want to transfer is supported (see Which content types can be transferred using Smart Switch Mobile? on the FAQs page).

2/6 -Create A Backup

  1. Connect your iOS device to your computer using a USB to iOS connector cable.

  2. Open iTunes on your computer.

  3. Click the iPhone® (or other iOS device) icon on the iTunes menu bar. The iPhone management screen opens. 

  4. Under Backups, click Back Up Now. A local backup file is created. In iTunes, ensure that the Encrypt Device checkbox is not marked. (Smart Switch cannot read backup files that are encrypted.) If you need instructions on backing up your content, see How to back up your devices using iCloud or iTunes

    Do not unplug your iOS device until the backup is complete.

  5. When the backup is complete, disconnect your iOS device from the computer.

   

3/6 -Default Save Locations

When you back up your files from your iOS device to a Windows® PC or a Mac, the files are automatically stored in a default location, unless you've selected to store them elsewhere. The default locations relative to the operating systems are provided below.

Windows 8Windows 7Windows Vista®

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata% and press the Enter key.

Windows XP

C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start and then choose Run. Type %appdata% and click OK.

Mac OS® X

/Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup

4/6 -Preparing To Transfer The Content To Your Android Device

  1. On your computer, turn off or temporarily disable your firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-malware, and other security tools. These can block Smart Switch from accessing and transferring information to your new device.

  2. Download the Smart Switch for Mac or PC installer by clicking the link at the top-right of the page. Once downloaded, double-click the installer to begin the installation process.

    The screens below show how to install Smart Switch on a Mac.

  3. After you select the app, a selection screen appears, from which you can either install or uninstall the Smart Switch package. Click the SmartSwitchMac.pkg image.

  4. A Trusted Source message appears, informing you that the new software will be installed. Click Continue.

  5. A Welcome to the Smart Switch Mac Installer screen appears. Along the left side is a bulleted list indicating which step of the installation you are on. Click Continue.

  6. Read through the Software License Agreement, then click Continue.

  7. On the software license agreement acknowledgement, click Agree.

  8. Choose the destination where you would like to install the Smart Switch package. The screen indicates the available destinations and the amount of installation space required. When you have selected your destination, click Continue.

  9. Click Install to begin the installation.

  10. As the software is installed, a screen shows the progress of the installation.

  11. Once the installation is complete, click Restart to restart your computer.

  12. After your computer restarts, open Smart Switch. Connect your new device using a USB cable.

5/6 -Selecting Content To Transfer

  1. Connect your new Galaxy device to your computer using a USB cable.

  2. Open the Samsung Smart Switch application. The main screen opens, with your new device displayed in the center. Click Restore to start the transfer process. 

  3. To change what content is transferred to your new device, click Change data to restore

    To transfer your entire backup file, click Restore now.

  4. If you choose to manually select what content is transferred, this screen will appear. Click the Samsung device data drop-down in the top-left corner of the screen, then select Non-Samsung device data from the list. 

  5. All content types available in your backup are then displayed on this screen. Deselect any content you do not want to transfer and click OK

6/6 -Transferring Content

  1. You are returned to the Restore screen. To proceed with the content transfer, click Restore now

  2. A Data restore complete screen will appear when the selected content has been transferred. Click Confirm. Your content is now available on your new device.
