Transferring Content From Android Devices Using PC/Mac Smart Switch

1/6 -Prerequisites

  1. Ensure that your PC or Mac and your Android device meet the system requirements for Smart Switch (see the Smart Switch for PC requirements and the Smart Switch for Mac requirements topics on the Introduction page).

  2. Ensure that the type of data you want to transfer is supported (see Which content types can be transferred using Smart Switch Mobile? on the FAQs page).

2/6 -Preparing To Transfer The Content To Your New Galaxy Device

  1. On your computer, turn off or temporarily disable your firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-malware, and other security tools. These can block Smart Switch from accessing and transferring information to your new device.

  2. Download the Smart Switch for Mac or PC installer by clicking the link at the top-right of this page. Once downloaded, double-click the installer to begin the installation process.

    The screens below show how to install Smart Switch on a PC.

  3. Before you can install the application, you must accept the license agreement. Mark the I accept... checkboxes, then click Next

  4. As the program is installing, the Setup Status screen appears, indicating the installation progress. 

  5. Once the installation is complete, click Finish

  6. After you install Smart Switch for PC/Mac, the app will automatically detect whether the most current version is loaded. If a software update is available, a message will appear, giving you the opportunity to update the application.

3/6 -Create A Backup

  1. Connect your old Samsung device to your computer using a USB cable.

  2. On the Smart Switch screen, click MORE

  3. Click Preferences, then select the Backup items tab.

  4. Select the content types you would like to back up, then click OK.

  5. Click Backup on the main Smart Switch screen. It may take several minutes for the backup to be completed.

  6. A screen appears, informing you that the backup is complete. Click Confirm.

4/6 -Default Save Locations

When you back up your files from your Android device to a Windows PC or a Mac, the files are automatically stored in a default location, unless you've selected to store them elsewhere. The default locations relative to the operating systems are provided below.

Windows 8Windows 7Windows Vista

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Samsung\Smart Switch PC

To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type%appdata% and press the Enter key.

Mac OS X

/Users/[username]/Documents/Samsung/SmartSwitch/backup

5/6 -Transferring Content

  1. Open the Smart Switch application. When prompted, connect your new device. 

  2. Once the new device is connected, the Smart Switch screen appears. Click Restore

  3. Smart Switch will automatically restore the most recent backup file you created. To restore the content, click Restore now

    If you would like to restore a different backup, click Change data to restore and select the backup file.

   

6/6 -Syncing Microsoft Outlook

You can synchronize data on your device with your Outlook account. 
To use the Outlook Sync feature:

  1. Click Outlook Sync on the Smart Switch screen. 

  2. Click Outlook Sync preferences to select which information you would like Smart Switch to sync. 

  3. Select the content you would like to sync with Outlook from your device. Click OK

  4. When you want to sync your device with Outlook, click Outlook Sync on the Smart Switch screen. Then click Sync Now.
