Enhanced Edge Features on Your Galaxy S7 Edge

The Edge screen on your device gives you instant access to the features and information you rely on the most. Edge panels keep you in the moment by putting your favorite applications, contacts, news, and more at your fingertips without having to leave the application you are using. When your device's screen is covered, Edge feeds display notifications, news, scores, and more, so you can stay up to date without waking up your device. When your device is turned over, Edge lighting alerts you to notifications and incoming calls.

Screens and settings available may vary by wireless service provider and software version.

Edge Panels

Use Edge panels to access your favorite features and important information without switching applications. Swipe the Edge screen handle to open the Edge panels.

If the Edge screen handle is not displayed, from the Home screen, touch Apps > Settings > Edge screen. Touch Edge panels and touch the slider to turn Edge panels on .

   

The following Edge panels are available by default. Swipe the Edge screen to scroll through the panels.

  • Apps edge: Displays frequently used applications.

  • Tasks edge: Displays any application shortcuts you've added to your Home screen.

  • People edge: Displays contacts you have marked as favorites and any others you select.

  • Yahoo! News: Shows breaking news and top headlines.

  • My Places: Adjusts your settings and displays shortcuts pertinent to your location, such as Home, Work, and Out and about.

  • Yahoo! Finance: Displays market data for a list of securities you provide.

  • Yahoo! Sports: Displays scores for your favorite sports teams.

  • Quick Tools: Offers navigation tools, such as a compass, GPS coordinates, and flashlight.

  • Calendar: Lets you see a quick overview of your day and upcoming events.

  • Weather: Displays basic weather information for your location.

Touch Settings to open the Edge panel settings and choose which Edge panels to display.

The Edge panel settings let you edit panel content, turn panels on or off, and reorder them. You can also download additional panels from Samsung Galaxy Apps by touching DOWNLOAD.

Edge Feeds

Use the Edge feeds to receive notifications, news, and more on your device while it's in standby mode.  

To open the Edge feeds, while your device is idle, touch the corner of the screen and swipe to the middle of the screen and back to the corner without lifting your finger.

If the Edge feeds do not display, from the Home screen, touch Apps > Settings > Edge screen. Touch Edge feeds and touch the slider to turn Edge feeds on .

The following feeds are available by default on your device:

  • Briefing feed: Displays notifications from your applications. You can choose which applications display notifications in the Edge feeds settings.

  • Yahoo! News: Shows breaking news and top headlines.

  • S Health: Displays your step count when tracking steps with S Health.

  • Yahoo! Finance: Displays market data for a list of securities you provide.

  • Yahoo! Sports: Displays scores for your favorite sports teams.

To access Edge feeds settings:

  1. From the Home screen, touch Apps.

  2. Touch Settings.

  3. Scroll to and touch Edge screen.

  4. Touch Edge feeds.

    The Edge feeds settings let you edit feed content, turn feeds on or off, and reorder them. You can also download additional feeds from Samsung Galaxy Apps by touching DOWNLOAD.

Edge Lighting

With Edge lighting turned on, your Edge screen will light up when you receive calls or notifications while the device's screen is covered.

If People edge is turned on in the Edge panels, you can assign Edge lighting colors to contacts. This feature lets you decide whether to take a call without even picking up your device. For calls you don't want to take, you can set up a Quick reply to send to the caller simply by placing your finger over the heart rate sensor. 

To access Edge lighting settings:

  1. From the Home screen, touch Apps.

  2. Touch Settings.

  3. Scroll to and touch Edge screen.

  4. Touch Edge lighting.
