Adjusting the Screen Brightness and Timeout on Your Galaxy S5

You can adjust the brightness of your device's display, or you can allow the brightness to adjust automatically depending on light levels. You can also adjust the screen timeout—the amount of time before your device's display powers down when it's not being used.

Screens and settings available may vary by wireless service provider and software version.

Adjust Display Brightness

Reducing the display brightness can assist with battery conservation.

From the Notification Panel

    1. Swipe from the top of the screen to the bottom to open the Notification Panel.

    2. The display brightness adjustment bar is just below the Quick Panel shortcuts.

    Mark the Auto checkbox to turn on automatic brightness.

    3. Touch and slide the bar to the right for a brighter screen or to the left for a darker screen.

From the Display Settings

    1. From the Home screen, touch Apps.

    2. Touch Settings.

    3. Scroll to and touch Display.

    4. Touch Brightness.

    5. Touch and slide the Brightness level bar to the right for a brighter screen or to the left for a darker screen.

    Mark the Auto checkbox to let the device adjust the display brightness based on your environment.

Adjust Screen Timeout

Reducing the screen timeout can assist with battery conservation.

1. From the Home screen, touch Apps.

2. Touch Settings.

3. Scroll to and touch Display.

4. Touch Screen timeout.

5. Select the desired delay from 15 seconds of no activity up to 10 minutes.
