Connect to Wireless Networks on Your Tab A (SM-T280)

Wi-Fi is a wireless connectivity feature that lets you connect Wi-Fi enabled devices. You can share information or connect to the Internet without using your device's data. View this topic in the simulator for step by step instructions or scroll down for more information such as Wi-Fi options.

Connect to a Wi-Fi Network

  1. From the Home screen, touch Apps > Settings > Wi-Fi.   

  2. Touch the slider to turn Wi-Fi on.   

  3. Available networks will display. Touch a network you want to connect to.   

  4. If necessary, enter a password and then touch CONNECT.   

Manually Add Your New Network Connection

  1. From the Home screen, touch Apps > Settings > Wi-Fi.   

  2. Touch MORE > Add network.   

  3. Enter the Network name. This is the name of the network you are connecting to.   

  4. Select the Security level of the network. If you select a security level that does not match your access point, you will not be able to connect.   

  5. If the access point is secured, enter the password.   

  6. You can mark the Show advanced options checkbox to configure the Proxy and IP settings.   

  7. Touch CONNECT to store the new information and connect to the network.

Wi-Fi Options

  1. From the Home screen, touch Apps > Settings > Wi-Fi.   

  2. Touch MORE to view the following options.

    • Add network: Manually add a Wi-Fi network.

    • WPS push button: Set up a connection to a WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) router or other equipment.

    • WPS PIN entry: View the PIN used by your device to set up a PIN-secured connection to a Wi-Fi router or other equipment (not configurable).

    • Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep: Specify when to disconnect from Wi-Fi.

    • Add network: Manually add a Wi-Fi network.

      Always allow scanning: Allow Google location service and other apps to scan for networks, even when Wi-Fi is turned off.

    • Install network certificates: Install authentication certificates.

Turn Wi-Fi On or Off via Notification Panel

  1. To turn Wi-Fi on, open the Notification Panel by swiping from the top of the screen to the bottom.   

  2. Touch the Wi-Fi shortcut in the Quick Panel to turn it on or off. When Wi-Fi is on, your device will scan for and automatically connect to any previously connected network.
