Reset Your Gear S2

Your Gear S2 lets you delete all of your personal information. This feature ensures your data is removed before sending the Gear in for replacement or repair, properly disposing of it, or giving it to a friend or family member to use.

Your personal information cannot be recovered after using this feature. Please back up any information you need using the Samsung Gear app on your phone, prior to using this feature.

Back Up Before the Reset

Back up your Gear S2's data before the reset so you can restore it when you want to. To back up, open Samsung Gear on your phone. Touch SETTINGS > About Gear > Back up and restore > Back up settings > BACK UP NOW. To restore the backed up data, return to the Back up and restore screen, and then touch Restore.

Note: A Samsung account is required to use the Back up and restore feature.

Light or Factory Reset

You can perform a light or factory reset on your Gear S2. From the watch screen, press the Home key, and then touch Settings. Swipe to and touch Gear info and then touch Reset Gear. Select Light reset to delete all data except media files and personal data (such as email accounts and Samsung Health data) or Factory reset to delete all data and reset settings to the factory default values.

Hard Reset

Your personal information cannot be recovered after using this feature.

  1. Power off your Gear S2.

  2. Press and hold the Power key until Rebooting... displays at the bottom of the screen.

  3. Press the Power key repeatedly until the Select REBOOT MODE screen displays.

  4. Press the Power key until Recovery is selected, and then press and hold the Power key immediately until Rebooting... is displayed on the screen.

    Note: Make sure the Power key is released once Rebooting... is displayed.
