Resetting My Samsung Gear S3 (SM-R760, SM-R765, SM-R770)

Your Gear S3 lets you delete all of your personal information from the device. This feature ensures your data is removed before sending the device in for replacement or repair, properly disposing of the device, or giving the device to a friend or family member to use.

The screens and steps shown below may vary by wireless service provider and your mobile device.

Before Resetting Your Device

Before resetting your device, you will need to back up your data and, if necessary, turn off Reactivation lock. This will ensure your data can be restored and that you are able to access your device after it is reset. 

Your personal information cannot be recovered after using this feature. Please back up any information you need using the Samsung Gear app on your mobile device prior to using this feature.

Back Up Your Data

  1. From the Home screen on your mobile device, touch Apps.
  2. Touch Samsung Gear.

    The Samsung Gear app may be located in the Samsung folder by default on some devices.

  3. Touch SETTINGS.
  4. Scroll to and touch About Gear.
  5. Touch Back up and restore.
  6. Touch Back up data.
  7. When you have finished connecting your Gear S3 to the other device, return to the Back up and restore screen and select Restore data.

Turn Off Reactivation Lock

    To ensure Reactivation lock is turned off, follow the steps below.

  1. From the Home screen of your mobile device, touch Apps.
  2. Touch Samsung Gear.

    The Samsung Gear app may be located in the Samsung folder by default on some devices.

  3. Touch the SETTINGS tab.
  4. Touch Find My Gear.
  5. If Reactivation lock is on, touch Reactivation lock. Otherwise, skip to the Reset Your Device steps below.
  6. Touch the slider to turn off Reactivation lock.
  7. Enter the password for your Samsung account and touch CONFIRM.

Reset Your Device

  1. From the Watch screen, press the Home key.
  2. Touch Settings.
  3. Scroll to and touch Gear info.
  4. Scroll to and touch Reset Gear.
  5. Touch the checkmark to confirm the reset, which will delete all downloaded apps and personal data.

Hard Reset

If you forget your screen lock PIN, you can perform a hard reset and restore your device to factory settings.

Your personal information cannot be recovered after using this feature.

  1. Turn off your Gear S3.
  2. Press and hold the Home key until REBOOTING displays at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Press the Home key repeatedly until the Select REBOOT MODE screen displays.
  4. Press the Home key until Recovery is selected, and then press and hold the Home key.
  5. Keep holding the Home key until the Gear S3 begins rebooting.
