Use fingerprint security on the Galaxy A series

In-display fingerprint scanner in phone screen

Save time by using your phone's fingerprint scanner to unlock your Galaxy A phone. Just register your fingerprint and turn on Fingerprint unlock - soon you'll have faster access your phone. Not to mention, no one will be able to open your phone but you.

Note: Available screens and settings may vary by wireless service provider and software version.

Fingerprints differences between Galaxy A phones

Depending on which Galaxy A phone you have, the fingerprint scanner may be in a different location. Or, it may not have a fingerprint scanner at all. Check out the list below to see if your model has one and where it's located.

  • A10e does not have a fingerprint scanner.

  • A20 has a fingerprint scanner on its back.

  • A50 and A70 have an in-display fingerprint scanner inside the phone's screen.

Register and use a fingerprint

Before you start using fingerprint security, you have to register your fingerprint! You can add up to four fingerprints.

From Settings, tap Biometrics and security, and then tap Fingerprints. Tap Continue, and then, if needed, set a screen lock. Follow the on-screen prompts to register your fingerprint. When you're finished, tap Done.

Next, make sure that the switch next to Fingerprint unlock is turned on. To unlock your phone, tap the screen or press the Power button. Then, place the registered finger on the fingerprint scanner. The phone will automatically unlock if it recognizes your fingerprint.

Note: In rare cases, the sensor may recognize a fingerprint that is similar to a registered fingerprint.

Add additional fingerprints

If your family or friends occasionally use your phone, register additional fingerprints so they can unlock it too.

From Settings, tap Biometrics and security, and then tap Fingerprints. Enter your secure screen lock credentials. Tap Add fingerprint. Follow the on-screen prompts, and then tap Done.

Remove a fingerprint

No matter what Galaxy A phone you have, removing registered fingerprints is exactly the same.

From Settings, search for and select Fingerprints. Tap Fingerprints, and enter your security credentials. Tap the fingerprint you want to delete (i.e. Fingerprint 1), and then tap Remove. Next, tap Remove again to confirm.
