Preparing for the Update
What Can Be Backed Up
A USB drive is required to back up the following items. Instructions for backing up are included in the update notification, before beginning the update.
Whiteboard entries (will save as an image)
Memo entries (will save as an image)
What Cannot Be Backed Up
View Inside food item lists
Internet Browser bookmarks
Bluetooth and other settings
What Does Not Need to Be Backed Up
These apps use third-party accounts. After the update, simply log into those accounts again and all data and settings will carry over.
Calendars (Outlook and Google calendar accounts will link with the new Calendar app; Stickiboard is being removed, see the What's Changing section below for more information)
Shopping apps (Instacart, Groceries by Mastercard)
Most of the apps on Family Hub will remain, although they may look slightly different or have a slightly different name. The following is a list of what will be added, changed or removed:
Smart Home Mobile App
After the update, the Smart Home mobile app will change how it connects with the Family Hub refrigerator.
For most Family Hub features (such as White Board, View Inside, or Calendar), use the Family Hub mobile app.
A user profile connected to a Samsung Account is required to use the Family Hub mobile app. See the User Profiles section below for more information.
After the update, user profiles will be a new feature on Family Hub, and will change the way mobile features and the calendar work. In addition, various apps such as Memo, White Board, To-Do, and Calendar will all interact with user profiles.
Each member of the household (up to 6) can have their own user profile on Family Hub.
Each profile which wants to use mobile features will need to connect with an individual Samsung Account. (Mobile features require the Family Hub mobile app, see the Smart Home mobile app section above for more information and links.)
Each profile which wants to use the calendar will need to connect with an individual Google and/or Outlook calendar account. (Stickiboard accounts will no longer be used.)
Stickiboard is being removed in this update. It will be replaced by the new Calendar, To-Do, and Memo apps.
The Stickiboard mobile app will no longer connect with Family Hub. After the update, the Family Hub mobile app will be used instead for mobile features, including the calendar.
All event data is stored in the linked Google or Outlook calendar account(s). After the update, linking the same Google or Outlook account(s) to a user profile (and optionally a Samsung Account in order to use mobile features) will restore event data.
The Morning Brief app will be removed.
Voice activation and control will be added. The wake word is "Hi Samsung."
The home screen now allows wallpaper to be set.
Hide, Show, and Customize Apps on the Home Screen
Add multiple copies, various sizes, or remove widgets from the home screen. Use the All Apps function to add a widget and pick its size.
