Initial Setup of HMD Odyssey

Imagine stomping onto the battleground of your favorite video game, or snagging a front row seat to see that rock band’s live show. With Odyssey HMD, these dreams are now reality—virtual reality, that is. Learn how to set up your HMD and start exploring this vivid new world around you.

Before you get lost in this new world, make sure you follow these tips:
• When you use a laptop, connect the power adaptor for stable performance.
• Connect the HMD cable to the USB 3.0 port and display support port on your computer.
• It is not recommended to use additional extension cables except the HMD cable.

Connect the HMD to a Computer

Before connecting, check your computer’s Internet connection.

Ready for an immersive 3D experience? Get started by setting up your HMD to a computer or laptop. Just turn on your computer and then connect the HMD cables to the corresponding ports. When you connect the HMD to your computer, the Mixed Reality Portal app will launch automatically. It’s that easy.

Prepare the HMD for Use

After you’ve connected the HMD to your computer and set up the Mixed Reality Portal app, check out these next steps so you can get started on your virtual journey:

  1. Select Get started on the Mixed Reality Portal app screen on your computer, and then review and agree to the Microsoft Privacy Statement and Terms of Service.

  2. Once your computer's specifications have been verified, click Next.

    Note: View the recommended computer specifications or download the compatibility checker.

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to learn about the HMD and then touch Next. The HMD’s firmware update screen will appear. When the firmware update button is activated, click it to update the firmware and then select Yes to start the update. Learn more about the HMD Odyssey Controllers.

  4. The controller setting screen will appear. To connect the controller, follow the on-screen instructions and then select Next

  5. Set an area to use the HMD. Follow the on-screen instructions to set the boundary of the area you want to use. 

  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup. Put on your HMD and start your experience!
