Use the ADT Keychain Remote with SmartThings

You can have your home monitoring controls right in your pocket with the ADT Keychain Remote. Walk out the front door and realize you forgot to arm your home security system? Just pull out the keychain and you’re in the clear, at the touch of a button. You can also easily monitor and use the ADT Keychain Remote right from the SmartThings app on your phone. 

Before you get started

The ADT Keychain Remote is super convenient, but first you'll need to make sure you've set it up properly. Keep these things in mind before you start the setup:

  • Make sure you are within 350 feet of the ADT Security Hub. Exact range depends on your home’s construction, the environment, the position of your ADT Security Hub, and the position and number of other connected devices. 

  • Make sure your ADT Security Hub is disarmed before connecting a new device.

  • Only set up one new device at a time, so it can pair properly.

  • Do not remove the battery tab until you are ready to set up the remote.  

Connect the ADT Keychain Remote

Did you walk outside this morning and forget to arm your home security system? No worries, just pull out your keychain remote and arm it from the driveway.

On your phone, navigate to and open the SmartThings app. Then, tap Menu, and navigate to the Location where the ADT hub is saved. Tap Add (the plus sign), and then tap Add device. Under Brands, tap ADT, and then tap ADT security devices.

Select ADT Keychain Remote from the list of devices. Use your phone’s camera to scan the keychain’s QR code, which is located inside the keychain’s back cover. If the QR code isn’t working, tap ADD DEVICE BY CODE and enter the code manually. It can be found next to the QR code or in the user manual.

Then, follow the on-screen instructions to finish connecting the keychain to SmartThings. When it’s done, Press and hold DISARM and AWAY on the remote for 5 seconds, and then release.
