Use the Lift to wake feature on your Galaxy phone

Lift to wake your phone

The Lift to wake feature allows you to turn on the display by simply lifting your phone from a table or removing it from your pocket. There’s no need to press any buttons! And, if you combine it with face recognition, you can activate and unlock your phone in one swift move.

Note: Available motions and gestures may vary by model.

Turn on Lift to wake

For an effortless way to activate this, just set the screen to turn on when you pick up the phone.

From Settings, tap Advanced features, and then tap Motions and gestures. Tap the switch next to Lift to wake to turn this feature on.

Note: Lift to wake replaced the Direct call feature available in previous Android versions.

Lift to unlock

Lift to wake is especially useful if you have face recognition set up on your phone. First, you’ll need to turn on Lift to wake and set up face recognition. Then, you’ll need to perform one last step.

From Settings, swipe to and tap Security and privacy. Tap Biometrics, and then tap Face recognition. Draw the pattern or enter the PIN or password associated with your face recognition, and then tap Continue.

Tap the switch next to Stay on Lock screen until swipe to turn off this feature. Now your phone will be awake and ready to unlock without needing to swipe or tap the screen.
