How to exit Samsung DeX mode on your Galaxy phone or tablet

If the 'Exit DeX' button is no longer visible in Samsung DeX mode on compatible Galaxy phones and tablets running Android 16 with One UI 8.0 or later, you can still exit DeX mode using the following methods:

How to exit Samsung DeX mode on your Galaxy phone or tablet

Exit DeX mode from the Quick settings panel

Whether you're using DeX on your phone or tablet with a wired or wireless connection to your TV or monitor, or utilizing standalone DeX mode directly on your tablet, you can easily exit DeX mode through the Quick panel settings.

  1. Simply swipe down using two fingers from the top-right corner of the screen to open the Quick settings panel.
  2. Then, tap the DeX icon to turn off DeX mode and disconnect from your display.

    Note: If the icon isn't available, you can add it as a Quick setting.
     

For alternative methods:

  • If you're using a wired connection, you can disconnect the DeX cable or HDMI cable from the device or display.
  • If you're using a wireless connection, you can simply turn off Wi-Fi.

Exit DeX from the device's Settings menu

Note
This option is not applicable when using a wired connection to a TV or monitor, or standalone DeX mode on Galaxy tablets.

When you use wireless DeX mode with a TV or monitor, you can exit DeX mode through your device's Settings menu and seamlessly transition back to your standard Home screen.

  1. Swipe down using two fingers from the top right corner of the screen to open the Quick settings panel.
  2. Tap the Settings icon (it looks like a gear) in the far right corner of the screen.

  3. Tap Connected devices, and then tap Samsung DeX.

  4. Then, tap the Disconnect display to turn off DeX mode and disconnect from your display.

You can also disable the Wi-Fi on your phone or tablet when using wireless DeX to disconnect from your TV or monitor.

Exit DeX mode from the Home screen

Note
Standalone DeX is only available on the Galaxy Tab S4, Tab S6, Tab S7 series, Tab S8 series, Tab S9 series, Tab A9+, Tab S10 series, Tab S11 series, Tab A11+, and Z TriFold.

Standalone DeX mode is available on select Galaxy Tabs and Z TriFold, letting you switch to DeX mode directly on your Home screen. The steps to exit may vary slightly depending on your software version.

  • On the Home screen, select the Recent icon, and then select the Home screen icon in the middle left corner.

  • On the DeX screen, select the Apps icon in the bottom-left corner, then select Exit DeX.
