Check for software updates
To check if your device is ready to upgrade to One UI 7, connect to a mobile or Wi-Fi network and ensure your device has sufficient battery life. Then, follow these steps to check for and install the update:
- Using two fingers, swipe down from the top right corner of the screen, and then tap the Settings icon.
- Swipe to and then tap Software update or System updates. It will vary between models.
- Tap Download and install, Check for system updates, or Check for software updates, depending on your carrier. If an update is available, it should begin downloading automatically, although you may need to tap Download now on some devices.
- When the download is complete, follow the on-screen instructions to install the update.
You can also tap the switch to enable or disable Auto download over Wi-Fi. When this option is turned on, your phone or tablet will automatically update when it's connected to a Wi-Fi network. If this option is turned off, you will need to update your device manually.
Software update not available or failed to install
Check the current software version
If you'd like to see the software version currently on your device:
- Open Settings.
- Tap About phone or About tablet.
- Tap Software information.
Here, you'll find details about the software currently running on your device, including the Baseband version, which indicates the firmware version. This information helps you verify your device's current software status.
Check with the carrier for available updates
All devices: When a software update is available, you can download it directly to your device. Just navigate to and open Settings, and then tap the Software updates or System updates menu. You can also check for software updates via Smart Switch on your Windows PC or Mac.
Verizon: Verizon provides a page where you can select a device from a list to view the latest update. The complete update history is not available.
AT&T: AT&T maintains a single page where you can search for the software update history of any device.
T-Mobile: T-Mobile releases information about major software updates in progress. You can find the current version for individual devices on the support page for the device. Past updates can be viewed by selecting Software updates on the support page.
Unlocked by Samsung: Factory-unlocked devices can download the latest software without restrictions. If no updates are available when checking, the device is on the latest released software.
Unlocked devices require more testing to ensure compatibility with all carriers, which may delay updates compared to carrier-branded devices.
Other carriers: Prepaid carriers often use the same software as their parent networks. However, most MVNOs (Mobile Virtual Network Operators) do not publish the current software version.
One UI7 update is not available
If the One UI7 software update is not available on your Galaxy phone or tablet, here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
- Connect the mobile device to Wi-Fi. Updates are large, and many carriers will require a Wi-Fi connection to prevent overloading the mobile network.
- If the device is SIM unlocked by the original carrier, you may be required to have a SIM from the original carrier installed in the device to download updates.
- If an update was just released, it may be distributed in waves to spread out the load on the servers hosting the update files. Continue checking for updates every few hours.
- If a PC is available, try using Smart Switch to install the update. Smart Switch will prompt you to install the update when the device is connected via USB. You can find USB cables on our website.
- Some carriers have their own PC based software update utility available on their websites.
One UI 7 update doesn't complete
If the One UI 7 update fails to install, the device will most likely recover from the error and try again. However, additional actions may be required:
- Insufficient storage: If the error indicates insufficient storage, free up space by deleting unnecessary files or apps. The device will display the amount of space needed.
- Failed download: If the update fails to download completely, you can resume the download from the notification.
- Continuous download failures: If the update continues to fail, use Smart Switch on a PC to install the update via USB.
If the device fails to boot normally after an update, please visit a Samsung walk-in service center, or you can schedule a repair service online.
One UI 7 update doesn't complete with Smart Switch
If One UI 7 update doesn't complete using Smart Switch, try the following:
- Check for PC updates. Navigate to and open Settings on your PC, and then select Windows Update.
Note: If you're using a Samsung PC, you can check for available updates from our Manuals & Downloads page. - Restart your PC to clear any issues you’re experiencing.
Note: It's also a good idea to restart your PC immediately after a software update.
- Windows: Click the Windows logo button in the lower-left corner of the screen, select Power, and then select Restart.
- Mac OS: Click the Apple logo in the top left corner of the screen, and then select Restart.
- Remove and reinstall Smart Switch.
- Windows: Click the Windows logo button in the lower-left corner of the screen, select Programs, and then select Programs and Features. Locate and right-click the app, and then select Uninstall.
- Mac OS: Open the Finder, and then select the Applications folder. Locate and right-click the app, and then select Move to Trash.
- Download and reinstall the Smart Switch app from the Microsoft Windows Store or get the Mac OS download. If you are using a Galaxy Book, you can install the Galaxy Book Smart Switch app.
- When your device is connected to your PC, a pop-up will appear, prompting you to choose how you’d like to transfer data. Make sure Transferring files / Android Auto is selected.
Note: Verizon phones include a USB setting for system updates. This mode is not compatible with Smart Switch. It is intended for Verizon’s software upgrade assistant tool. - Try connecting your phone to another USB port on your PC, if one is available. Or, you can try using another USB cable.
- Finally, you can try using Smart Switch on a different PC.
If you are still unable to update your phone or tablet using Smart Switch on your PC, please repeat the above steps.
Device is unresponsive or lags
Force-reboot the device
- Make sure your battery is charged to at least 5%. If your battery is below 5%, the phone may not turn on after the reboot.
Note: If the battery is completely drained, it should be charged for a minimum of 15 minutes using an appropriate Samsung charger. - Press and hold the Volume down and Power button simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds. The Power menu may appear; just continue pressing the buttons until the Samsung logo appears.
- The device should boot up normally. However, if the Maintenance mode screen appears, use the Volume buttons to cycle through the options. Then, press the Power button to select Normal Boot.
Boot the device into safe mode
- Open the Power menu. Swipe down from the top right of the screen to open the Quick panel, and then tap the Power icon at the top of the screen.
- Touch and hold Power off until the Safe mode icon is displayed. Tap Safe mode to start your device in Safe mode.
Note: If you've entered Safe mode successfully, you'll see “Safe mode” displayed at the bottom of the screen. - Use the phone or tablet normally to see if the issue has been resolved. If the phone or tablet is operating normally, a recently installed app was most likely causing the issue.
- If the issue is gone in Safe mode: One of your recently downloaded apps was likely the cause of the problem. You will need to uninstall any apps you downloaded just before your phone or tablet began having the issue.
- If the issue still exists: Downloaded apps may not be the cause of the problem. You may need to reset the phone or tablet to its factory settings.
- Exit safe mode. Swipe down with two fingers from the top right corner of the screen to open the Quick panel. Tap the Power icon at the top of the screen.
- Wait until the phone or tablet completely turns off, and then press the Power button again to turn it on.
- Check the device for normal operation. If the issue persists, reset the phone or tablet to its factory settings.

- Wait until the phone or tablet completely turns off, and then press the Power button again to turn it on.
- Check the device for normal operation. If the issue persists, reset the phone or tablet to its factory settings.

Wi-Fi status displays Wi-Fi 6 connection while connected to a Wi-Fi 7 network
Wi-Fi 7 is available on the Galaxy S25 Edge, S25 Ultra, S25+, S25, and S24 Ultra, but not all phones or networks support Wi-Fi 7 yet. It also depends on where you are - some places might not have Wi-Fi 7 coverage.
If your phone doesn't support Wi-Fi 7, it will show the fastest Wi-Fi it can use, like Wi-Fi 5, 6, or 6E. So, even if you're connected to Wi-Fi 7, your phone might show Wi-Fi 6 if that's the best it can handle.
If you're using a Galaxy S25 model or the S24 Ultra and see Wi-Fi 6, check with your network provider for Wi-Fi 7 availability in your area. If you're trying to connect to a Wi-Fi 7 router, check with the router manufacturer to confirm if the router supports WPA3 H2E (Hash to Element).
Cannot connect a Bluetooth device, or the Bluetooth device is not detected
On the Galaxy S25 series and other phones or tablets running One UI 7, the Bluetooth settings will only display and connect devices with compatible profiles. This means some older Bluetooth devices without compatible profiles may not appear in the list of available Bluetooth devices. To resolve this issue:
- Install the Bluetooth device's dedicated app. Many Bluetooth devices come with a companion app that allow you to connect and manage the device. Install the app on your phone or tablet, and then try connecting the devices.
- Refer to the Bluetooth device's user manual or contact the manufacturer directly for detailed instructions on installing and connected the dedicated app.
Mobile hotspot is not detected
If your mobile hotspot on your phone or cellular-connected tablet isn't showing up on other devices, try the following:
- On your phone or tablet, navigate to and open Settings.
- Tap Connections, and then tap Mobile Hotspot and Tethering.
- Tap Mobile Hotspot, and then turn on the switch at the top of the page.
- Tap the network name to open the configuration menu.
- Tap Advanced at the bottom of the menu, and then turn off the switch next to Hidden network.
Note: The hidden network feature keeps your hotspot invisible to other devices. Turning it off makes it detectable. - Now, swipe up to check the band frequency settings. If the device you're trying to connect is older and doesn't support the 6 GHz band, change the hotspot band to 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz.
Phone or tablet will not connect to a Mobile hotspot device
If you're having trouble connecting your phone or tablet to a hotspot device, check the security status of the hotspot in the Wi-Fi settings to ensure it's properly configured for connection.
- On the Mobile hotspot device, navigate to and open its Settings menu.
Note: Depending on the device model, this could be accessible through a web interface or a dedicated app. - Look for the network settings to access the Mobile hotspot menu, and then find the security settings or encryption option.
- Check the current security setting to see if it's set to WPA3, WPA2, or another standard. If the security setting is set to WPA3 and you're trying to connect an older device that doesn't support WPA3, consider changing it to WPA2 for compatibility.
Note: If you're unable to change the security settings for your mobile hotspot device, reach out to your network provider or the device manufacturer. for assistance.
If you're unable to connect to the mobile hotspot on another Galaxy phone or tablet:
- Navigate to and open Settings.
- Tap Connections, and then tap Mobile Hotspot and tethering.
- Tap Mobile Hotspot, and then tap the network name of the mobile hotspot.
- Tap Security, and then tap WPA2-Personal or WPA2/WPA3-Personal.

Galaxy phone or tablet does not recognize USB devices, or cannot connect to a PC via USB
In One UI 7, when a USB device, such as headphones, a mouse, or a keyboard, is connected after the screen has been locked for one hour, a notification will appear indicating "To use USB device, unlock your phone and reconnect the USB device."During this time, the USB connection is restricted, although charging remains functional. This is to protect your data and prevent unidentified USB devices from connecting to your phone while the screen is locked. USB connection can be used after the screen is unlocked and the cable is reconnected.

- Navigate to and open Settings.
- Swipe to and tap Security and privacy.
