Auto dispenser refill message displays on Samsung washer
Refill the auto dispenser compartment with detergent or fabric softener.
If your washing machine receives a message saying "Refill detergent," "Refill softener," or "Refill detergent and softener," you should refill the corresponding compartment(s).
To fill the compartment, open the detergent drawer. Turn the corresponding compartment cover counterclockwise to open it. Pour the appropriate amount of additive into the compartment (liquid only), replace the cover, and then close the drawer.
Make sure the compartment drawer is closed.
The refill message may also occur when putting in the detergent drawer after removal, or if the drawer is opened during a cycle or just after one completes. Either of these may create an air pocket. To remove the air pocket, leave the detergent drawer closed and then wait about 30 seconds.
Start a cycle.
If the message still does not go away, then you'll need to start a cycle. The message will remain until the washer attempts to use the compartment again.
Which cycle to use depends on which compartment needs refilling. You'll also want to either use a cycle where the auto dispensing defaults to on (like the Normal cycle), or manually turn it on after selecting the cycle.
Wash cycles (like the Normal cycle) will check for detergent right at the beginning of the cycle (if the setting is on). Softener, however, is not checked for until the drain point of the last rinse. So on a Normal wash cycle, the Softener message will remain until it gets to that point.
You can however do a Rinse + Spin cycle instead, which skips the washing part and does not use detergent, so that the washer will perform the softener check right at the beginning of the cycle and more quickly clear the message away.
