No picture when connecting devices to Freestyle

If you connect an external device to your Freestyle projector such as a set-top box or a game console but notice that the picture does not display, it could be due to the set output resolution of the device.

No picture when connecting devices to Freestyle

The Freestyle projector's max resolution is 1080p or FHD. A lot of devices today are able to display higher resolutions than that such as 2160p or 4K. If your set-top box was set to output 4K on your TV, then you disconnect it and plug it into your Freestyle, you will see a black screen because the Freestyle can not display a 4K signal.

Disconnect the external device from the Freestyle.

Turn the external device off, disconnect the HDMI cable from the Freestyle and disconnect power (if necessary to move the external device).

Connect the external device back to the TV you originally connected it to.

Connect the external device to a TV that supports 4K resolution using the same HDMI cable (minus the adaptor that the Freestyle requires).

Navigate to the video output settings on your external device.

These settings will vary by device. You may need to refer to the manufacturer of the set top box or game console to find out how to change the output resolution.

Change the output resolution to Auto or 1080p.

Most devices have an Auto option which would be recommended as it will check the display device and output the maximum resolution that is supported.

Save the changes you made and turn off the external device.

Make sure you follow the menus of the specific device so that the changes you made stay in effect and then power the device down.

Disconnect the device from the TV and reconnect the device to the Freestyle.

Turn on the Freestyle and your external device. It should now display.
