What can you do if your Samsung dishwasher isn't starting or isn't filling with water?

Last Update date : 2024-01-01

When you choose a cycle, your dishwasher will initially try to remove any remaining water from previous cycles. This may give the impression that the dishwasher is operating, even though no water is entering the unit at this point, which is a normal occurrence. Following the completion of the drain cycle, the dishwasher will then move on to the chosen wash cycle. If this sequence doesn't align with your experience, it's possible that your dishwasher has Child Lock or Delay Start activated.

Troubleshoot your dishwasher

If your dishwasher is not starting or filling with water, follow these steps:

  1. Inspect the door and door latch for damage. A damaged door or latch may hinder the dishwasher from closing, preventing it from starting when an open door is detected.

  2. If the buttons are unresponsive, consider the possibility that the Child Lock is activated. Typically represented by a padlock icon, you can toggle the Child Lock by pressing and holding the designated button for 3 seconds. Common buttons for this function are Heated Dry, Sanitize, or Child Lock. When the Child Lock is on, the padlock icon or the associated button will be illuminated.

  3. Ensure that Delay Start is not selected, especially if you want to wash dishes immediately. With Delay Start enabled, the dishwasher waits until the set time has elapsed before starting a cycle.

  4. Check for error codes. These indicators may suggest an error preventing the dishwasher from starting. Refer to the error code guide for accurate troubleshooting steps.

  5. Attempt a quick press (not hold) of the Start button. Holding the Start button for more than 3 seconds cancels the cycle, causing the dishwasher to drain. If this occurs, a blinking “1” will appear on the display. To resume the cycle, press the Start button.

  6. Lastly, visit the circuit breaker in your home and reset the circuit dedicated to your dishwasher. After restoring power, try running another cycle to check for resolution.
