TV or projector does not show up during SmartThings discovery process

Last Update date : 2024-01-10

If the SmartThings app is having problems connecting to or detecting your device, you should check a few things, such as whether Bluetooth is enabled on your phone. Then, try connecting your TV or projector to the SmartThings app once more.

SmartThings
1 Check for updates.
Check for software updates on the phone and the SmartThings app. Update the TV or projector's firmware if necessary.
2 Check that your phone's Bluetooth is turned on.

Check that your phone's Bluetooth is turned on. Keep in mind that if your phone is in power-saving mode, Bluetooth may be turned off.

  • To enable Bluetooth on your phone, use two fingers to slide down from the top of the screen to reveal the Quick Settings panel. When Bluetooth is activated, the Bluetooth symbol turns blue. If the indicator is grey, Bluetooth is turned off; press the icon to enable Bluetooth.
  • Bluetooth is always enabled on your TV or projector, so there is no need to be concerned. Just make sure it's turned on before attempting to connect a Bluetooth device to it.
3 Check the device range.

The phone should be within 30 feet of the TV/projector. Also, make sure that there are no obstacles, such as walls or electrical equipment, between the devices.

4 Restart the devices.

Restart both the phone and TV or projector, and then launch the SmartThings app on the phone again.

5 Open the SmartThings app.

Navigate to and launch the SmartThings app on your phone. Tap the Devices tab, then Add (the plus sign) in the upper right corner.

6 Connect your TV or projector.

Tap Add device, followed by the By brand tab. Tap Samsung, then TV (projector), then Start.

To finish the setup, follow the instructions for your model. If your TV from 2017, 2018, or 2019 requires a PIN, enter the PIN displayed on the TV screen into your phone and then hit Done.

Note:

  • The phone and TV/projector need to be logged into the same Samsung account to pair. Only Samsung models can be added to the SmartThings app.
  • If you are still encountering any issues, please contact Samsung Support or visit the nearest  Samsung service center.
