Understand the size options and terminology on Samsung refrigerators
Samsung refrigerators come in several size options to better fit your kitchen layout and your daily needs. Each model is available in one specific size, but most models belong to a series, and other sizes from the same series are often available. The two most common size options are Standard Depth and Counter Depth and some series also include Narrow Width models.
Note: While the advice in this guide applies to all Samsung refrigerators, it has been written with our Canadian customers in mind.
Standard Depth refrigerators typically have a depth of 27 to 31 inches (69 to 79 cm), not including the doors or handles. These models usually extend about 6 inches (15 cm) beyond the edge of your counter, but they provide a generous amount of interior storage. The width is usually 35 3⁄4 inches (91 cm), although you should always refer to the specifications for the exact dimensions of the model you choose.
Standard Depth refrigerators are also generally more affordable than Counter Depth models, making them a popular option for many households.
Counter Depth refrigerators typically have a depth of 24 to 25 inches (61 to 64 cm), not including the doors or handles. They are designed to align more closely with your counter, with usually only the doors extending past the edge. This can help create a cleaner, built-in look and may offer more walking space in smaller kitchens. The width is usually 35 3⁄4 inches (91 cm), but always check the specifications of your chosen model to confirm the exact dimensions.
Counter Depth models can also make it easier to access items, since the interior is shallower and you may not need to reach as far to retrieve things from the back.
Some Samsung refrigerators are available in a Narrow Width design. These models vary by series, but the width typically ranges from 29 to 33 inches (74 to 84 cm). The depth can range from 26 to 34 1⁄2 inches (66 to 88 cm).
Narrow Width refrigerators are a practical choice for smaller kitchens, apartments, finished garages, or any space where a full-size appliance would take up too much room. Even with their reduced width, these models still provide a surprising amount of interior storage to support everyday needs.
Refrigerator capacity is usually listed in cubic feet (cu. ft.). This number represents the total interior space available for storing food in both the fridge and freezer sections. A larger cubic foot rating means the appliance can hold more items, but it does not indicate the exterior size of the refrigerator. When comparing models, you can use the cubic foot capacity as a general reference for how much storage space each option provides.
For many households, a capacity around 18 to 20 cubic feet is often suitable for one or two people, while families of three to four people commonly look at models in the 20 to 26 cubic foot range. For households that need even more storage, Samsung also offers larger models, with some reaching up to around 32 cubic feet, providing additional room for bulk shopping, large families or frequent hosting.
These ranges are only general references. The right capacity depends first on the space available in your kitchen and your budget, and also on factors such as how often you cook, how frequently you shop, and how much fresh or frozen food you prefer to keep on hand.
