Change the date and time on your Samsung Galaxy
We’ve become so reliant on modern technology that manually setting a clock or changing the date can feel like a chore. Luckily, your Galaxy phone or tablet can take care of this for you. As long as the device is connected to a mobile network or Wi-Fi, the date and time are set automatically. If you expect to be disconnected for a while, you can adjust the date and time manually. You can also switch to a 24-hour time format if you prefer.
Note: The information provided applies to devices sold in Canada. Available screens and settings may vary on phones sold in other countries.
When the Automatic date and time feature is enabled, your device uses the mobile network to determine the correct date and time. This allows the settings to update automatically based on your location or changes related to daylight saving time in your time zone.
Note:
- When Automatic date and time is turned on, the options to manually change the date and time do not appear.
- When your phone or tablet is connected to a mobile network, the date, time, and time zone are set automatically based on the network’s settings. If needed, you can check your connection by going back to Settings and tapping Connections.
If you’re having trouble connecting to a network or prefer to set the time yourself, you can change the date and time manually. When you select a time zone that observes daylight saving time, your device adjusts the time automatically on the appropriate date.
Note: Many apps and websites may not operate correctly, and you may see security warnings, if the date and time on your phone or tablet are not accurate.
- Set date: Select a date from the calendar, then tap Done.
- Set time: Swipe to adjust the time, then tap Done.
- Select time zone: Choose the appropriate region and time zone based on your location. Even when set manually, your phone or tablet automatically adjusts for daylight saving time based on the selected time zone.
Note: If Automatic date and time is enabled again, the options to manually change the date and time will not appear.
If you prefer a 24-hour time format, your Galaxy phone or tablet includes an option to display the clock accordingly. You can enable this setting at any time and switch back to the standard format whenever you want.
Note: When enabled, the clock displays time in a 24-hour format, regardless of whether the date and time are set automatically or manually. You can turn this option off at any time by tapping the switch again.
If you want to go further, you can also set and manage alarms on your Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet. Unlike date and time settings, alarms are not managed through the Settings menu. Instead, they are handled using the free Samsung Clock app. For step-by-step instructions and more advanced options, see our guide on setting and managing alarms on your Samsung Galaxy.
If the Clock app is not available on your phone or tablet, you can download it from an app store. Since the app name is generic, make sure to install the official, free version developed by Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. from a trusted source.
You can install the app from either store, depending on your preference:
