The Samsung One UI 8 update brings exciting improvements to Galaxy phones and tablets, making them easier and more enjoyable to use. Built to enhance your Galaxy experience, One UI 8 is the interface that powers your device, combining design and smart features to create a simple, connected, and secure experience. One UI 8 was first introduced with the Galaxy Z Fold7, Z Flip7, Z Flip7 FE, S25 FE, Tab S11 Ultra, and Tab S11. As the rollout continues, more Samsung Galaxy devices will receive the One UI 8 update.
Here’s a list of devices that were released with One UI 8 or are expected to receive the update:

How your device handles updates for you
In practice, you won’t need to look for a software update yourself. When an update becomes available for your Samsung Galaxy device, a push notification will automatically appear, prompting you to download and install it. Important updates like user interface upgrades or security patches are nearly impossible to miss. Your device ensures you’re notified when it’s time to update. All it takes is a single tap to start the update process, with no effort required.
Note that unlocked Galaxy devices typically receive updates sooner than carrier-locked models. This is because updates for unlocked devices come directly from Samsung, while carrier-locked devices may experience delays as the update goes through the carrier’s review and customization process.
How to manually check for a software update
To check if an update is available for your Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet, follow these steps:
Step 1. Open the Settings menu. Then, navigate to and tap Software update.
Step 2. Tap Download and install.
Step 3. If an update is available, it will begin downloading automatically. On some devices, you may need to tap Download now or Install now to proceed.
Note:
- On some Galaxy devices, the Software update menu may be labeled System updates instead.
- Depending on your carrier or device model, you might see an additional step after tapping Download and install, such as Check for system updates or Check for software updates.
- Unless you're in an exceptional case, it’s completely normal not to see any available updates. The standard process is to receive a push notification automatically when an update is ready.
How to check your current software version
You can quickly view the current software version running on your Galaxy device, including key details like the One UI version, Android version and build number.
Step 1. Open the Settings menu. Then, navigate to and tap About phone or About tablet.
Step 2. Tap Software information.
Step 3. You’ll see detailed information about your device’s software, including the One UI version, Android version, build number, and more.

Make sure the Side button starts Gemini
For quick access, set the Side button to start Gemini with a long press:
Step 1. Open the Settings menu. Then, scroll through the menu and tap Advanced features.
Step 2. Tap Side button.
Step 3. Tap Long press.
Step 4. Make sure Digital assistant is selected.
Step 5. Tap the Settings icon (shaped like a gear) next to “Digital assistant”.
Step 6. Make sure Google is selected.
Confirm your Gemini preferences
Take a moment to review your Gemini settings to make sure everything suits your preferences. In particular, you can select your preferred voice style.
Step 1. Open the Gemini app.
Step 2. Tap your profile icon at the top right corner of the screen.
Step 3. Scroll through the menu, then tap Settings.
Step 4. Tap Gemini’s voice.
Step 5. Swipe left or right to hear the different voices available.
Step 6. When you find your preferred voice, tap Select to start using it.
Note: Beyond voice settings, Gemini offers several options to customize and improve your experience. Take a moment to explore and find what works best for you.
Use Gemini in everyday life
If you’ve followed the steps above, your Side button is now set to launch Gemini with a long press. Once activated, you can ask Gemini questions, get recommendations, or complete tasks in a natural, conversational way. Here are two examples of how Gemini can simplify your day, but its possibilities go far beyond that.
Request: “What is the best Indian restaurant in Toronto?”
Answer: Gemini provides a list of recommendations with hyperlinks to the restaurants’ websites.
Explore: When you tap a hyperlink, the restaurant’s website opens, giving you more details to help you choose the perfect spot.
Request: While viewing a webpage, ask Gemini: “Can you summarize the page and create a note?”
Answer: Gemini summarizes the webpage and automatically creates a note for you.
Explore: When you tap Samsung Notes, the note opens directly in the app, where you can view or edit it as needed.

Circle to Search
Circle to Search lets you look up anything that appears on your screen without leaving the app you’re using. Simply touch and hold the Home icon on the navigation bar, then circle or tap the object that catches your attention. Galaxy AI instantly displays related results (such as articles, images, shopping links, or videos) right at the bottom of your screen.
Step 1. Touch and hold the Home icon on the navigation bar when you see something interesting on your screen.
Step 2. Use your finger to circle the item of interest or tap it directly.
Step 3. Galaxy AI displays related search results. Swipe up on the results at the bottom of the screen to see more details.
Note: Circle to Search can also enhance your gaming experience by offering gameplay tips and related videos in real time, helping you improve or discover new strategies while you play.
AI select
Circle to Search lets you look up anything that appears on your screen without leaving the app you’re using. Step 1. From any screen, swipe the handle toward the center to open the Edge panel.

Step 3. Draw around the part of the screen you want to capture, or tap an object directly. Depending on what you select, several options will appear.
Search in Settings
The Search in Settings feature on your Galaxy device makes it easier to find and manage options without browsing through menus. With just a few taps, you can locate and adjust specific settings by typing a keyword in the search bar.
Open Settings, tap the Search icon, and enter a keyword such as “Wi-Fi” or “wallpaper.” You’ll immediately see a list of relevant results, with the most commonly used options at the top.
In today’s interconnected world, your Samsung Galaxy device helps bridge language and accessibility gaps. With a few smart and inclusive features, you can connect effortlessly, whether you’re speaking different languages, following a call transcript or expressing yourself visually.

- Call transcript and summary: Generate detailed call transcripts and short summaries automatically after a call. You can revisit important information, confirm details or share a recap with others, without needing to take notes during the conversation.
- AI Stickers in Samsung Keyboard: Add personality to your messages by turning your ideas into expressive stickers. Just describe what you want, and Galaxy AI creates unique visuals you can send directly in your chats. It’s a fun, creative way to make your conversations more personal.
- Call Captions: Follow every word during phone calls with live, on-screen captions. Designed to support users with hearing difficulties, Call Captions displays real-time text as you listen, making phone calls more accessible and inclusive for everyone.

- Edit Suggest: This feature uses intelligent analysis to recognize how your photo could be improved. It automatically detects elements like faces, backgrounds, and lighting, then offers tailored suggestions such as Live effect, Background blur, or Remaster. Each recommendation helps you enhance your image with a single tap, no editing experience required, making it perfect for quick, polished results.
