Restart or reset your Galaxy Watch
If your Galaxy Watch is frozen, unresponsive, or not working as expected, restarting it is often the quickest way to resolve minor issues. In some cases, a force restart may be required to get the watch running again.
For more persistent problems, or if you plan to pair your watch with a new phone, resetting the watch may be necessary. You can reset your Galaxy Watch directly from the watch settings or through the Galaxy Wearable app, allowing you to restore it to its default configuration and set it up again from scratch.
Note: Information provided applies to devices sold in Canada. Available screens and settings may vary for Galaxy Watch models sold in other countries.
Restarting your Galaxy Watch is the quickest and easiest way to resolve many common issues. If your watch is slow, not responding properly or not behaving as expected, a simple restart is often enough to fix the problem.
No matter what issue you’re experiencing, restarting your Galaxy Watch is a good first step to try. Because it’s fast and easy, it can save you time before moving on to more advanced troubleshooting. If the watch is completely frozen or unresponsive, you may need to perform a force restart instead.
To force restart your Galaxy Watch, press and hold the Home button and the Back button at the same time for at least seven seconds. The screen will turn black, and the Samsung logo will appear, indicating that the watch is restarting. You can release both buttons once you see the logo.
Note: The Home button may also be labelled as the Power button.
Resetting your Galaxy Watch using the Galaxy Wearable app allows you to restore the watch to its default settings directly from your connected phone. This method is often the preferred option, especially if you already use the app to manage your watch.
Note: Because the Galaxy Wearable app is the best way to access and customize all of your watch’s features, it also provides the most convenient way to perform a reset when needed. If your watch is not connected to the Galaxy Wearable app, you can still reset it directly from the watch settings instead (see next section).
Resetting your Galaxy Watch directly from the watch itself allows you to restore it to its default settings without using a phone. This is the most universal reset method, since it works whether or not you are using the Galaxy Wearable app. However, if your watch is connected to the Galaxy Wearable app, resetting it through the app is usually easier and recommended (refer to the previous section).
Reset your watch using the Reset option
Reset your watch using the Connect to new phone option
Note:
- Depending on your watch model or current connection state, one reset option may work more reliably than the other.
- Depending on your specific settings, extra steps may be required. Simply follow the on-screen instructions to complete the procedure.
- If you were using the Galaxy Wearable app before resetting your watch and want to pair it again with the same mobile device, open the app, tap Connect, then follow the on-screen instructions.
- If you reset your Galaxy Watch from the watch itself, some watch data may still remain saved on your mobile device. This is why resetting through the Galaxy Wearable app is usually the preferred method. If needed, you can delete this data by unpairing your watch from the Bluetooth settings on your mobile device (see next section).
If you no longer have your Galaxy Watch but it still appears in the Galaxy Wearable app or in your phone’s device lists, you can remove it from the Bluetooth settings on your mobile device. This allows you to disconnect the watch, clear it from your list of paired devices and remove any saved connection data.
Note: Bluetooth must be turned on to access the list of paired devices on your mobile device.
Note: The steps shown are based on a Samsung Galaxy device. You can disconnect your Galaxy Watch from the Bluetooth menu on other Android or iOS devices as well, with similar steps and menu options.
- If you’re experiencing minor issues with your Galaxy Watch, such as a slow interface or temporary glitches, restarting the watch is often enough to fix the problem.
- If the watch is completely frozen or unresponsive, performing a force restart can help get it running again.
- For more persistent problems, resetting your Galaxy Watch may be necessary. Once the reset is complete, you can set up the watch again from scratch.
- If your watch is connected to the Galaxy Wearable app, resetting it through the app is usually the easiest and recommended option.
- If the Galaxy Wearable app reset option is unavailable, or if your watch is not connected, you can still reset the watch directly from the watch settings using one of the available reset paths.
- If you plan to pair your Galaxy Watch with a new phone, resetting it first can help ensure a smoother setup process.
- If you no longer have your Galaxy Watch but it still appears in your phone’s device lists, you can remove it through the Bluetooth settings on your mobile device instead.
