From time to time, your Samsung TV will receive software updates that add new features or fix bugs. No matter which model you own, keeping the software up to date is important for the best performance. You can update your TV over the internet or by using a USB flash drive. Just keep in mind that after an update, your video and audio settings might reset to their default values.

Note:

There are a few things to keep in mind before updating your Samsung TV to help ensure the process goes smoothly.

  • Software updates may vary by model: Most Samsung TVs receive updates that can include new features or improvements, especially in the early years. Over time, updates typically focus on resolving issues and maintaining performance rather than adding features.
  • Updates usually only take a few minutes: Most software updates complete quickly, but this can vary depending on your internet connection and the size of the update.
  • Don’t turn off the TV during the update: Your TV may turn off and on automatically during the process. This is normal. Interrupting the update may cause issues.
  • Some settings may change after an update: While rare, your TV's picture settings or sound settings might reset to their defaults. It's always a good idea to check them after an update, just in case. If needed, you can easily adjust them again.

If your Samsung TV is connected to the internet, you can have software updates downloaded and installed automatically, often while you're watching. Once the update is complete, it will be applied the next time you turn on your TV. This setting is usually enabled by default, but it’s always a good idea to double-check:

If you’re not sure whether your Samsung TV needs an update, you can manually check through the software update menu. Just make sure your TV is connected to the internet, this method only works when the TV is online.

If your Samsung TV isn’t connected to the internet, you can download the latest software file from the Samsung website and save it to a USB flash drive. Then, simply plug the USB into your TV to start the update.

Warning: This procedure is intended for advanced users. Don’t let that discourage you. But if you choose to proceed, be sure to follow each step carefully. Attention to detail is important to ensure the update works correctly.

1 Update files are specific to each TV model, so you’ll need to know your TV’s model code. You can find it on your bill of sale or in the user manual. You can also check it directly on your TV by navigating to Settings > All Settings > Support > About TV.

2 On your computer, visit the Samsung Download Center.
3 Enter your model code in the search bar. A Suggested Search should appear below. Select it to go to the support page for your specific TV model.

Note: If no result appears when you enter your model code, make sure it’s typed correctly. If you're still not seeing anything, your TV model may not be supported in Canada. You can also contact Samsung Support for assistance.

4 On the support page, select Manual & Downloads from the menu, or scroll down to that section.
5 Select the software file from the list — it’s usually labeled Upgrade File (USB type) — and then select Download next to it.

Note: If there are multiple software files listed, download the most recent version. Look at the version number or date listed under each file to identify the latest one, as it will include the newest improvements and fixes for your TV.

6 Allow the download to complete. Once finished, locate the file on your computer and unzip it. The unzipped folder will usually contain one main folder, which may include multiple files.
7 Connect a USB flash drive to your computer. Then, copy or move all files and folders from the unzipped software package directly to the USB drive. Do not place them inside any additional folders. If the update files are inside another folder, your TV will not detect them.

Note: Your USB flash drive should be empty and formatted to FAT32 for the update to work properly.

8 Insert the USB flash drive into a USB port on your TV (or into the One Connect Box if your TV uses one).

9 Your TV may automatically detect the USB flash drive and prompt you to start the update. If it doesn’t, navigate to Settings > All Settings > Support > Software Update > Update Now to manually start the update process.

10 Select Yes when prompted. Your TV will search the USB drive for update files. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the updated software.
11 Updates using a USB drive usually take a few minutes (sometimes up to 10). Do not turn off the TV during the update. Once the update is complete, your TV will restart automatically.

If your Samsung TV was released in 2021 or earlier, the steps to manage software updates may look a little different. Follow the instructions below if the previous steps don’t match what you see on your TV.
