What is the Do not disturb feature, and how do I use it on my Samsung Galaxy Note 4?

Do not disturb mode mutes all calls and alerts on your device, unless you set them as exceptions. You can set Do not disturb mode to turn on and off automatically at scheduled times. Important! If alarms are not set as an exception, Do not disturb mode will silence all alarms set on your device.

Screens and settings available may vary by wireless service provider and software version.

Turn On Do Not Disturb Mode

From Settings

  1. From the Home screen, touch Apps Apps Icon.
  2. Touch Settings Settings Icon.
  3. Touch Sounds and notifications Sounds Settings Icon.
    Note: It may be necessary to switch the Settings menu to list view by touching More options More Options Icon > View as > List view.
  4. Scroll to and touch Do not disturb.

  5. Touch the slider Off Slider to turn Do not disturb mode on On Slider.

Using the Quick Panel

  1. Using two fingers slightly separated, swipe from the top of the screen to the bottom to access the Quick Panel.
    Open Quick Panel
  2. Touch the Do not disturb shortcut to turn on Do not disturb mode.

Set Up Exceptions

If there are select notifications you want to receive even when Do not disturb mode is turned on, you can set these notifications as exceptions.

  1. From the Home screen, touch Apps Apps Icon.
  2. Touch Settings Settings Icon.
  3. Touch Sounds and notifications Sounds Settings Icon.
    Note: It may be necessary to switch the Settings menu to list view by touching More options More Options Icon > View as > List view.
  4. Touch Do not disturb.
  5. Mark the Allow exceptions checkbox.
  6. Mark the checkbox for each type of notification you want to set as an exception.

Choose from the following options:

  • Phone calls: Allow notification sounds and vibrations for incoming phone calls.
  • Messages: Allow notification sounds and vibrations for incoming messages.
  • Calls and messages from: Choose whose Phone calls and/or Messages will cause your device to play a notification sound or vibrate. Select All, Favorite contacts only, or Contacts only.
    Note: This option is only available when the Phone calls or Messages checkboxes are marked.
  • Events and reminders: Allow notification sounds and vibrations for S Planner events and personal reminders.
  • Alarms: Allow notification sounds and vibrations for alarms. This checkbox will be marked automatically.
  • Application notifications: Access settings for application notifications. Set as priority to allow application notifications as exceptions.

Manage Scheduling

If you turn on Do not disturb mode manually, it will not turn off automatically at a previously scheduled time.

You can set Do not disturb mode to turn on and off automatically at scheduled times.

  1. From the Home screen, touch Apps Apps Icon.
  2. Touch Settings Settings Icon.
  3. Touch Sounds and notifications Sounds Settings Icon.
    Note: It may be necessary to switch the Settings menu to list view by touching More options More Options Icon > View as > List view.
  4. Touch Do not disturb.
  5. Mark the Scheduling checkbox.
    Do Not Disturb
  6. Touch Days.
    Do Not Disturb
  7. Mark the checkboxes for the days when you want Do not disturb mode to turn on automatically and touch DONE.

  8. Touch Start time. Touch the up or down arrows and AM or PM to set the time Do not disturb mode will turn on. Touch OK.
    Do Not Disturb
  9. Touch End time. Touch the up or down arrows and AM or PM to set the time Do not disturb mode will turn off. Touch OK.

Turn Off Do Not Disturb Mode

You can quickly turn off Do not disturb mode using shortcuts in the Notification and Quick panels.

Using the Notification Panel

  1. Swipe from the top of the screen to the bottom to access the Notification Panel.
    Open Notification Panel
  2. Touch TURN OFF.
    Do Not Disturb

Using the Quick Panel

  1. Using two fingers slightly separated, swipe from the top of the screen to the bottom to access the Quick Panel.
    Open Quick Panel
  2. Touch the Do not disturb shortcut to turn off Do not disturb mode.
