Using the Do Not Disturb Feature on Your Samsung Galaxy S4

Do not disturb mode mutes all calls and alerts on your device unless you set them as exceptions. You can set Do not disturb mode to turn on and off automatically at scheduled times.

Screens and settings available may vary by wireless service provider and software version.

Turn On Do Not Disturb Mode

If alarms are not set as an exception, Do not disturb mode will silence all alarms set on your device.

From Settings

  1. From the Home screen, navigate to Apps > Settings.

  2. Touch the MY DEVICE tab.

    To switch to the tab view, touch Menu Key > Switch to tab view.

  3. Touch Sound and notification.

  4. Swipe to and touch Do not disturb.

  5. Touch the slider off to turn Do not disturb mode on.

  

Using the Quick Panel

  1. Using two fingers slightly separated, swipe from the top of the screen to the bottom to access the Quick Panel.

  2. Touch the Do not disturb shortcut to turn on Do not disturb mode.

Set Up Exceptions

If there are select notifications you want to receive even when Do not disturb mode is turned on, you can set these notifications as exceptions.

  1. From the Home screen, navigate to Apps > Settings.

  2. Touch the MY DEVICE tab.

    To switch to the tab view, touch Menu Key > Switch to tab view.

  3. Touch Sound and notification.

  4. Swipe to and touch Do not disturb.

  5. Touch Allow exceptions.

  6. Touch the slider to turn Allow exceptions on.

  7. Mark the checkbox for each type of notification you want to set as an exception.

  8. 9. Choose from the following options:

    • Alarms: Allow notification sounds and vibrations for alarms. This checkbox will be marked automatically.

    • Calls: Allow notification sounds and vibrations for incoming phone calls.

    • Messages: Allow notification sounds and vibrations for incoming messages.

    • Calls and/or messages from: Choose whose Calls and/or Messages will cause your device to play a notification sound or vibrate. Select All, Favorite contacts only, or Contacts only.

      This option is only available when either the Calls or Messages checkbox is marked.

    • Events and reminders: Allow notification sounds and vibrations for Calendar events and personal reminders.

Manage Scheduling

If you turn on Do not disturb mode manually, it will not turn off automatically at a previously scheduled time.

You can set Do not disturb mode to turn on or off automatically at scheduled times.

  1. From the Home screen, touch Apps.

  2. Touch the MY DEVICE tab.

    To switch to the tab view, touch Menu Key > Switch to tab view.

  3. Touch Sound and notification.

  4. Swipe to and touch Do not disturb.

  5. Mark the Set schedule checkbox.

  6. Touch Days.

  7. Mark the check boxes for the days when you want Do not disturb mode to turn on automatically and then touch DONE.

  8. Touch Start time. Touch the up or down arrows and AM or PM to set the time Do not disturb mode will turn on and then touch OK.

  9. Touch End time. Touch the up or down arrows and AM or PM to set the time Do not disturb mode will turn off and then touch OK.

Turn Off Do Not Disturb Mode

You can quickly turn off Do not disturb mode using shortcuts in the Notification and Quick panels.

Using the Notification Panel

  1. Swipe from the top of the screen to the bottom to access the Notification Panel.

  2. Touch TURN OFF.

  

Using the Quick Panel

  1. Using two fingers slightly separated, swipe from the top of the screen to the bottom to access the Quick Panel.

  2. Touch Do not disturb to turn off Do not disturb mode.
